Katchmarek -> Nowotny's Ashes to be exhumed ** READ (7/23/2003 6:11 PM)

Hi All, Well I was surprised this morning when checking my email...I received a reply from Vienna regarding Nowotny's remains. It is sort of vague and I don't know exactly what to make of it...but I think it means that they are leaving him where he is but the City will no longer maintain the gravesite...it will now be taken care of by the Federal Ministry of the Interior as a war grave.

Dear Mr. Bailey,
With regard to your letter addressed to Mayor Dr Michael Häupl regarding the tomb of honour of Walter Nowotny, we would like to inform you as follows:
The Vienna City Council decided to disallow the tomb of honour in its sitting on 23 May 2003. This means that the City of Vienna will no longer take care of the tomb. The tomb will, however, be maintained as war grave. In Austria, the Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for war graves.
