What's the scoop on these wal mart chargers. I keep seeing references to them in many of these posts, but I'm not sure I understand why they are so popular or referenced so often. Are these good chargers or just cheap chargers. Can someone please enlighten me. Thanks all !

The term "wall wart" is applied to all those chargers that come with rechargeable appliances, R/C Radios, cell phones, etc., Just a little black (usually) box that plugs directly into the wall AC outlet and then by a cable with a plug on it that matches whatever device it was suppose to work with. They come in a variety of sizes and ratings as well as the battery types they are suppose to work with.

People usually throw them away when whatever they came with stops working. But you will find they can be used to charge other devices sometimes, particularly higher capacity r/c packs. I have written an article about them that you might find interesting. It can be seen at the Battery Clinic, just look on the left side of the page for "All about Wall Wart Chargers".

Does it matter if one would use a charger intended for ni-cad use on ni-mh batteries? I have 3000 mah batteries and am not quite sure how to charge them. 60 hours seems long.(for a standard charger)

You want a charger that will charge at about C/10 rate so for your batteries that would be 300 mA. At that rate you can leave the charger on for a couple of days and it won't hurt the batteries, nicd or nimh.

Soulman....It would matter if it is a peak charger as nicads and nmh have slightly differing charge/peak characteristics.
