I bought one of those 800mw systems from Spylinker, and tested it out last weekend with pretty good results. I did get periodic interference and was wondering about a bigger antenna for the receiver, as it is only a few inches long. If I wanted to get a better antenna, what would you suggest, and how high should I mount it ( on a pole, etc).

I built a self contained pod that mounts onto any plane with rubber bands- that way anyone at the club can get a video shot of their plane/ hele. I'm ordering another one for an A 10 pusher prop, and I'll mount the whole thing inside the fuse, and stick the camera out of the nose by the gun.

BTW: try mounting it looking back at the tail, and do some 3D stuff- it's pretty wild video!

The antenna on the rx is tuned for that frequency so changing the size of it wont work well. You can make a patch antenna (have to ask somebody else for help there) or get a Yagi (beam) antenna for 1.2ghz.
The simplest solution is to mount the entire rx on a length of pvc pipe, the taller the better. You want the antenna above everyone's head at the field because 1.2ghz doesnt like traveling though meat. Not implying your club members are meat-heads!
I saw quite an improvement with my system just putting it on a 5' length of pipe. Only thing I had in the shop, it was left over from building a transport rack for my planes. I aim to go to an 8' length once I get around to it.
