I'm thinking about building some sort of rack hanging from the garage ceiling...raise and lower it with a rope. ceiling is about 10ft so would rather not carry the big planes up and down the ladder. anyone ever build something like this or have any ideas on how to set it up?

My garage has open rafters. I made two ladder / rack arrangements to hold wings for larger planes. The racks fit between rafters, and a pipe at one end is the supporting device and a hinge. The pipe just lays atop two rafters. At the other end I made a latch hook arrangement and I stand on a ladder or scaffold to lift the rack and lower the end . I made fitted cradles for the wings I put on the racks.

Works for me.

Do a google search for bike storage and you will find ideas similar to what you want.

I have screw eyes in my ceiling with a rope running through it and another screw eye. I have a hook on the wall. The rope runs up to the ceiling eye then across to the other eye then down to the plane. Large screw eyes are best as they let the rope slide.

I just went from a full basement to a normal two car garage. I did my garage up, using the ceiling area as best I could. I used threaded rods with plywood platformes.

I'll get some photos.

I saw something similar to this on RCU somewhere then I just made my own up using that idea for a template. I hang them off inexpensive bike hooks from the ceiling. Think they cost me about 6 to 8 bucks each for the parts.
