Let us know how you feel. Would you rather have an engine with rear intake or side intake or how about rear intake/rear exhaust, or side intake/rear exhaust.

I voted that I prefer the rear intake setup, but that all depends.
If I can get the carb inside the cowl then I don't think the rear carb is such a big advantage.

Rear exhaust would be great if every plane had a pipe tunnel, but they don't, so I didn't vote that way.

If we were talking twins I don't think rear anything is an advantage. I prefer bottom side carb and bottom side exhaust.

Hi Wiz,

We're pretty much in total agreement. I voted side/side, but you're right, that assumes there is room to fit it all in. In fact, I had bought a ZDZ40 to put in a Yellow Spitfire project just for those reasons, but I decided not to do it, so I sold the ZDZ.

I guess this poll doesn't take enough factors into account as is typical of these things, but it's still interesting to me.

The answer depends largely on the shape of the cowl the engine is going in.

On narrow cowled planes like the Cub and inline-engined scale bird like the P51 and Aircobra, a rear intake rear exhaust has a clear advantage.

On planes with extended cheeks like on most aerobatic planes, a invert-mounted engine would easily accomodate a side carb and side exhaust.

BTW, even though I don't prefer this arrangement, you forgot to include the option of FRONT CARB like on the MVVS 1.6 and 2.15.

Hi Volfy,

You're right. I can't edit the poll, but the moderators can. I'm going to write Marc and ask him to add six more options.
