RE: ESM T-28
What does everyone think of the spar? Maybe I'm used to a different style plane but it seems small. It also has considerable play within the socket.
What type of glue will you be using to join the wings/spar?

Anyone else (like me) placed a deposit on the plane based on a delivery of late April now being told June to July delivery ?.
If delivery is likely to be as far away as July, I dont think I can wait that long for my next project to start.
I also note that although the question on how this thing flys has been asked a few times, no one has responded, so, again, if anyone can give a detailed flight report, it would be appreciated.

RE: ESM T-28
Well Istarted working on this plane. At first the build was going smooth, but the retracts from Sierra are proving to be a little more difficult that I thought that they would be. The pre-installed blocks in the wing for the retracts to screw to are smaller that than the retract mounts. Therefore when you screw in two of the four screws you are left with no material for the other two screws to attach to.
Also, there is no hardwarein the kit for the doors to attach to the retracts. I figure that they are probably provided with the ESMretracts, but if thats the case, then Sierra should be providing those too.
Thirdly, the retract molded inserts do not even come close to remotely fitting correctly. If you cut out the covering and then trim the retract inserts to the correct shape, there is a 1/8" gap all the way around. LOOKSABSOLUTELYHORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm very disappointed in this. Has anyone else had any of these problems?
Oh yeah, the fourth thing. The retracts when in there retracted state, do not fit as the oleo strut rubs against the retract housing.
Beautiful retracts, but Idon't think that this was tested correctly before being released!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

RE: ESM T-28
For $200.00 from ESM you get a set of retracts and all of the Gear door stuff with closers installed. also the valves struts and Al wheels.
It is all nice stuff and I tested all of mine and nothing leaked any air.

RE: ESM T-28
Thats good to know.So has anyone started putting this bird together yet? I'm missing parst of the doors. I've got 2 of 3 different parts. I'm also missing the links that attach the doors to the retracts. In addition to those problems, the retracts when retracted are going to cause thewheelsto stick out about 1". They WILLnot sit flush! I'm really hoping that ESM/TroyBuiltModels or Sierra is reading this that way they can help me out.

RE: ESM T-28
GENTS,
SIERRA had an ESM T-28 when they measured and made the gear... just a few things to keep in mind...trying to be helpful here...
The Plastic inserts...run them under warm water before trimming...this will help keep them from splitting while you are trimming them...next...when trimming you should be allowing for a lip of about 1/4" to run over the wing skin so you have something for the well liner to either be glued to the top of the wing skin or to use that surface to screw into...
dont cut the wheel liners all the way flush so they drop completely into the retract bay and you don't have a lip....that is the wrong way...SEE THE PHOTOS BELOW FOR THE CORRECT METHOD OF TRIMMING IF USING THE INSERTS.. THESE ARE PHOTOS FROM THE VQ WARBIRDS ESM SPITFIRE DEMO AIRPLANE ....not really necessary to use the liners...
Next...on the sierra retracts... if needed just add a piece of aircraft ply as needed to allow more surface area to allow the retracts to bite into...
hope these few tips help...and if you already have done so..please post photos so we can work this out....together we will achieve!!!
THANKS!

Re the gear door attachments:
When I bought the Sierra gear for my KMP FW190, Darrell offered the attachment points as a (very low cost) option, which I purchased. You can see them in the photo. Might check to see if he does, or will do, the same here.
Just a thought

One thing you may want to consider. ESM gear has a very small footprint. I have not had time to put my gear in yet but. Sierra may have used one of their in retract stock frames that has the same basic width and may be a tad longer. If one of the screw hole is not where you like it. There is nothing wrong with drilling a hole yourself where you think would be a better place. I have done this myself.
It is much cheaper for a retract supplier to use a stock part than spend more man hours to make up a new one. This in turns increases the cost to us.
I know in the cockpits I make I have several pieces that may be generic to multiple cockpits. It time and cost of making molds is quite high.

Very Nice Carlos! How did you come across a set of the doors that attach to the strut? And what about those wheels. Where did you get those? I love the set up. Please share! :-)

Carlos - Have you tried to balance yours yet?
I got mine put together enough today to start looking at the way it will balance. I'm going electric. My motor w/ mount is 2.5lbs. It looks like I'm going to have to put the batteries toward the rear of the cockpit area to balance.
Where did you get the attachments from the struts to the doors? I bought my gear from Sierra at Toledo but Darryl did not put my package together. I'm wondering if something was left out of my bag. I'm getting ready to make some from brass.

Dude, your in Lexington? Sweet. I'm in Louisville. Would you mind making me a set too? Maybe if we finish up our models we can get to see each others fly. I'd be up for a little road trip out there.
