That bacon roll thing must have like 15,000 calories, if not more.

here is my math;
it looks like it contains 1.5-2.0lbs of bacon and 1lb of ground beef

1lb of cooked bacon= 2454 calories and 190g of fat
1lb of cooked 70% ground beef is 1225 calories and 81g of fat

i figure 1.5lbs of bacon ad 1lb of ground beef so your looking at 4,906 calories and 366g of fat... yeah. so figure almost a full pound of pure fat.

I've been buying and eating bacon for all my 59 years, and I have noticed in the last 10 years or so the bacon is not the quality it used to be. It is not consistent from package to package, even in the same brand. Often these days it cooks up so tough you can hardly eat it. Has anyone else noticed?

I own a REAL county ham curing facility in the mountains of NC - the last old fashioned cure facility left in the USA in all likelyhood. Cured with mountain air, salt, sugar, and time (months). It is NOT the quick cure type with sodium nitrates and nitrites, cured in a couple of days. Here, the hams are about 1/2 the size they were 30 years ago - cure out at 16 pounds instead of 32! The point is, the pigs are raised and slaughtered in a quicker time than the good old days. I think this has made bacon inconsistent. Just my theory.

The hams are still damn good, though.

Regards,

Randy L.

tommygun32,

There sure is: http://site.abvannoyhams.com/Home_Page.html

My grandfather started this ham business in 1920. It has operated continuously since. The hams are now cured by Byron and Nancy Jordan who bought the business in 1994. My aunt and I still own the facility, however.

I never worked in the facility, but did deliver hams to select restaurants with my Grandfather when I was in high school. I went another direction - aerospace engineering. Although I recently retired from a successful career, I sometimes wish I had done more with the hams!

Contact them about delivery to UAE. I am not sure international delivery is allowed - believe it or not, it only became allowable to ship across state lines in 2009! This is when the web site was developed. You may have to ship to your USA home.

Regards,

Randy Little

smoking meat is one of my other hobbies, made some mighty fine bacon on my offset pit, I think the pig is a magnificent animal and provides us with so many tastes and textures, my signature pic on the smoking forums says it all

Check out the local baconfest 1050 lbs of bacon cooked up this year!

http://desmoines.metromix.com/restaurants/article/bring-on-the-bacon/1768964/content

the afterparty was at a bar with 108 beers on tap and 112 in bottles, bacon and beer makes bellies happy for sure

Bacon is my favorite. Also roasted pork shoulder. Man you stick that bad boy in an oven at about 325° for about 7 hrs and the end result is mouth watering.

know whats gross? many hot dogs. pork, beef and chicken. basically its like someone bombed a farm, picked up the scraps and put it in hot-dog form.

i like egg, cheese, bacon, green pepper, mushroom and onion omelettes with a side of hash browns and OJ. seriously good stuff there

i really love good, "high end" bacon but costco sells bacon from Kirkland brand that is precooked and all you do is throw it in the microwave for a min and it is perfect. its pretty good too.
