Can anyone give me some info or ideas on how to make up some custom parts for inside my body. I would like a few tips on a roll cage and maybe some other cool custom made parts.
I have a holden hsv maloo ute (Australian made body), I have designed and made the lights with head, tail and fog lights on all the time with working break lights and working turn signals. Will post pics when the body is finished if anyones interested.
Would love to build a roll cage for inside the cabin, viewable through the windows. My exhaust runs to the rear of my car already so any ideas on making a realistic looking 'big' exhaust would be greatly appreciated, along with any other cool ideas and/or info.
neons would be good but too expensive to ship to oz from rcneon.com
cheers in advance.
p.s. I noticed a post some time ago on police car with working bar light... Ive built one with working lights and siren, will post pics if anyones interested.

Somewhere out there, there is a page on just that. It goes into detail on how to build a great looking roll cage for an RC Car. I thought I had it saved but I've just been through everything and can't seem to find it.... But it is out there and if I find it I'll let you know.

Roll cage is easy.
go to your local Hobby store and by some 1/4" brass or copper tubing, or a little bigger if you prefur.
next go to the nearest Hardware store where you'll need to purchase a Propane torch (I recommend a Bernzomatic torch tip) or a Mapp Gas torch if you prefur, some "Soder paste" (aka "Flux" and some soder, I prefur the thin soder as it makes for neater joints.
if your hobby store didn't have the tubing, ask the guys at the hardware store for 1/4" copper tubing, its real easy to bend, which will cut down on having to cut so much of the tubing.

at my local hardware store you can get a huge roll of this stuff for $9.99!

now, draw out the style of roll bar you want, then cut / bend all the tubing to the size you need.
next, sand all the tubing so its bright and shiney.
now find a way to hold the tubing together (hee hee, this is the fun part!! lol) like in a vise or use some clamps. now put the soder paste on the joits, and light the torch, heat the tubing up a little at the joint and apply the soder, when it looks like there enough soder, turn the torch off and wait for it to cool down.

thats pretty much it!
there's no real learning involved, its baseicly turn the torch on, adjust the size of the flame (one knob) and just melt the soder onto the tubing.
the hardest part is getting all the tubing to stay the way you want it just long enough to soder it together!!

Good luck!
its really not as hard as it sounds!!

You call that easy?!?! damn, what is hard in your book?
Another member gave me a website awhile back RC Drift and it has tutorials on roll cages, intercoolers, brake disc rotors and exhausts.
I have done the rollcage from here using straws and glueing aluminum foil (they suggest chrome tape, too expensive), cutting the straws and attaching them inside the body and to each other using clear silicone. To put a bend in the frame, I use the bendy straws and then glue al foil on it, to extend a straw, stick one inside the other, glue it and then foil it.
works a treat, looks good and sure is cheap.
A whole cage has cost me less than $3.
The next cage Im working on, I have wrapped coloured paper around some parts to look like the padding available for real cages. cheap cheap cheap

Im not entering no auto salon or fabrication championship.. so straws and al foil do the job, give the look and sure are cheap.
You also have to think... some people dont have the money, patience or skills to buy, bend and solder real pipe.
I can bend and solder but why spend the money when I only want the look and not a real cage to protect my body... besides, when your car is driving, who can tell the difference?
Cheap is good... do you bag the idea of using the inner circle of a cd for a disc rotor? thats cheap and gives an effective look.
I say, the cheap and simple ideas are best.. at least if you stuff it up the first time, it dont cost much to do it again

I have to agree with bugged, the straws are pretty ghetto. Its only like 3 dollars for 4 feet of tubing, and you can find a cheesy torch lighter for 3 bucks. solder is pennies. And YOU GET TO BURN STUFF!!! C'mon.

Dstruked, you make a good point about burning stuff.... but I can be described as 1 word... ok, maybe a few 4 letter ones too, but cheap.
having said that, I went down the hardware store and bought large washers that fit my axles sweetly and with a little machining, will look like real disc rotors... I did do the cd middles... but cheap just didnt cut it there... so maybe I will look downthe back of the lounge and if I find some coins... get some tubing.
Of course, I will post pics of the new beast when I start on it.

the other reason I don't like the straw idea is you spend all that time making that thing, then if you accidently hit it the wrong way, there it goes. (like trying to disconnect the battery and have the connecter stick....)

CD center idea is pretty interesting.

well, have fun anyway!

Dstruked, youu do make a good point about rolling it and I have been called nuts before, so it makes no surprise to many people, the body im adding all the extras too, will not see the road enough to roll it... the closest this one will get is sitting on it for photos.
