What i did to reinforce the flap area (..was really too shaky and light )
was to glue these balsa sticks.

It did make a big difference ...

Kostas, are you going to use the EZ hinges or a Robart hinge point type? The hinge point would move the hinge knuckle out to the surface of the wing from the 1/8 inch below the surface with the CA hinges. The hinge point should work in the amount of wood needed for the CA hinge?

Joe

Joe i think i am going to stay with the supplied CA+ hinges /arrangement.

Although i really really hate the hinging-job they did.

I will stay for a while with this setup and if it fails on me (...hope it fales on the ground :P )
i will strip all the d@mn hinges and use my beloved and never failed on me Greatplanes hinges!

Now the ailerons & flaps are installed with each servos/horns/rods.

I have voted first for my all time favourite hinge ,
the Dubro Nylon T-style horn, No.237.

BUT the screw that is provided by Dubro was too small for reaching the backplate of the horn so as to be secured tightly.

So i tried the Black Horse setup ...... at first it looked really weird but in the end it was very very nicely thought and worked great!

Here are some pictures ,as always!

Today i did some reinforcing ....

Mainly on the area behind the firewall .... and also on the wing.
Where the retracts will bolt on....
I used thinned epoxy (30'+alcohol) and fiberglass cloth!

I have also done the install of the control horns on the elevators and rudder.

Now the jobs that have to be done,
are :

1) retracts
2) servos on the fuselage for the elevators+rudder+throttle
3)installation of my Saito 120S (...waiting to come)
4)batteries/Rx/fuel tank & miscelaneous hardware!

OK now start the problems!

Firstly,

the P-36A doesn't come with pre-installed blind nuts behind the firewall for bolting your engine...so you must use your own gear.
I always vote for Dubro stuff that had never failed on me or let me down!

I "tried" to install x4 10-32 blind nuts with 10-32x1-1/4' SHCS....

I drilled the firewall with a small drill bit, then enlarged the holes with a #8 drill bit.
Then tried to install the bolts/blind nuts BUT when you try to draw the blind nuts into place,

the wood is so soft that you end up with no sight of the blind nuts !

And i am really hesitant if this will hold up to the torque of the Saito 120S....anyone with some advice here ?

Then i drilled the engine mount with a small drill bit and then used an #8 tap to make some nice threads!

That worked awsome...then i installed the x4 8-32x1-1/4' SCHS along with the #8 washers and #8 safety lock nuts.
All Dubro.

Here are some pictures.

Please give me some advice for the blind nuts.

A quick & effective way out of that one is by using 4 large steel washers & Locknuts...i'm suprised the wood is as soft as you say!?.
Or you can reinforce the back of the bulkead/firewall with a 6mm ply piece & use longer bolts.
I would not trust to leave it like that..Saito 120's have bags of torque...it may work loose & pull out over time...a bad accident that would be!..

Neo Gold sorry for my misunderstanding but i didn't get it.....about the " 4 large steel washers & Locknuts. "

Could you draw a sketch on MS paint or something ?

Oh and the wood is unexpectedly soft and i mean SOFT.....

............up for a little update!

I have already installed the fuel tank and set up on the fuselage.
The little opening on the wood,
just behind the firewall gives you good sight of the place and makes the f.tank installation a breeze....

Enjoy..

Guys...today was the day for the retracts...i'd say i am more than please with the outcome
although

it was a b#tch to install the retract horn with the retract pushrods hooked up....

Anyway
it seems a good install so far,
the one leg needs some more cutting though!

There still is a little bit of play when the retracts are down but not too much!

Just finished my BH P-47 today (well allmost) axles are missing. Are your retracts loose in lock down position? mine have about 15mm play at the end of the shaft. on both. The retract servo is going to be a pain as well..Mine has 5 servos as well in the wing..
