M4A3 Sherman Build
Just ANOTHER Sherman build ... an M4A3 using the Mato Sherman chassis, Tamiya turret and upper hull.
Did a little cutting tonight, knocked off the grouser covers and gun barrel travel mount.
I'll be using both Tiff Williams and Nick's parts.
Still waiting on the Imperial Deck Screen and tomorrow night I'll start working on attaching the Tamiya upper hull to the Mato lower hull/chassis.
Might even get back to those road wheels for the Tamiya Panther ...
... nah, not yet.

I'm sure this will be a great looking Sherman!

Oh, it will be different to say the least. Sorry about the one blurry picture of the exhaust deflector. Someone was asking questions about build threads and I thought I was getting behind on this one, so I did rush it a bit.

Jeff, I like in the first pic how you captured the the realism of a 88 hitting the turret. Can't wait to see the rest. Also some pics of the Panther. If anything like your last builds these will be stunning. So have you got all the Panther wheel bolts cut down yet? Keep the pics rolling.

Hello Jeff,
Very nice work, nice conversion! Not sure if you want it or need or already have it, but I have the Rear engine decks coming in from Imperial, and I have the Type A Hedgerow cutters coming in as well!

Thanks guys. It's just a fun little project to mess around with while slaving, err I mean building on the Panther kit. I haven't returned to the Panther and the parts are starting to get dusty.
I do want to thank tailend charlie for his pictures of where the screw locations were for disassembling the 2 hulls pieces. He kept saying they were under the tracks, I looked (but in my defense the lighting was poor) and those pics showed they were indeed under the tracks, but in the crease of the sponson, and they were tiny screws as well. I guess it would have helped to remove the tracks, but I was lazy.
Hey Phil, I have the same exact parts on their way here, but thanks! Hopefully if HL does make an A3 we won't need to worry about them at all any-longer!
No new pictures today, it's been a hard day out in the field supervising workers and I think I'll grab a brew and take up some roots on my sofa. [sm=lol.gif]

Yeah, working with the Tamiya Sherman parts is like visiting the old neighborhood. No directions/instructions needed.
And how dare you make fun of my plight on those Panther road wheels sevoblast! [:@] You should have warned me before I took the plunge! What, there's a total of 32 bolts on each wheel that need to be measured and cut, then glued THEN don't forget those caps that have 8 tiny bolts that must have the same done to them PLUS the 4 locking tabs for each cap made of PE that I needed to cut out and file.
Yeah ... I went through a few 12 packs [&o] on those and really don't want to start the habit back up when I revisit the road wheel bolts.

You didn't ask... But think how good they will look when you are finished...and how much fun you will have consuming the elbow lubricant. That's half the fun right there.

Anyone do a Sherman DD yet? Guess it would be a bit strange to have a RC Sherman on the battlefield with dual propellers and a screen, lol. But would be a sight when it heads for the waters!

There was a guy in France who did one. He also had a BARV based ona Sherman. THe guy posted a couple of pictures. His work was some of the best I had ever seen.

bring on all the Shermans we can get.

No new pics yet but some BIG progress on the old Sherman. I dusted off the A/C dremel and punched out the stock cupola, the rear A1 deck, opened up the gun mount for the new rotor shield and made some changes on the turret roof.
Tomorrow's the day off so I'll break out some styrene and take some newer pics. Looks like my A3 deck will be styrene and not resin because of "shrinkage".

Man, building or putting together a tank is one thing. Deconstructing one is another.
Cutting and sanding is a mess and wears one out.
Filling in all the corrections and making changes.
I'll let my hands recover from all the cramping and hopefully make progress on the next post, the engine deck.

RE: M4A3 Sherman Build
I read that "Loud and Clear"!! I went through the same thing whilst converting my Tamiya Sherman into a Korean-War Era M4A3E8. Isn't it fun, picking up teeny parts whem you can't even feel them?
