How come you guys didn'y offer a higher gear ratio other than 51/23? I think alot of guys who ran off-road and short distance would rather a closer gear ratio than a 57/17-51/23, I think thats a real big jump in gears if the average Baja owner is going to be doing some off-roading and short distance high speed runs.

We will eventually offer several gearing options. Because we are working with Robinson Racing to manufacture the gears we basically have to do gear runs of 250 sets at a time. Obviously it would be very cost prohibitive for us to run several gear sizes right out the door. We felt that there are more people interested in hitting top speeds and drag racing then dirt. I have already talked to some dirt racers about lower gearing for second. The next gear set that we will offer will probably be a 19:55 or 20:54 combination.

As TGN has posted on the essential release of this product, I will go ahead and elaborate on the production status of this product to keep you guys up to date. We have been working very closely with TGN to get this out to you guys. In fact TGN is credited for having the first functional two-speed prototype for the HPI baja. This was 3 RCX's ago. I came in a little after that first one and started from the ground up with my own version.

Here is where we are with production:

The final Two speed design consists of roughly 16 machined parts and 30 bits of hardware. To this date we have about 6 of 16 machined parts and all of the hardware ready to kit and ship to TGN. Over the next couple of weeks we should receive all of our parts from the various shops that we have commissioned and get kits into TGN hands within the first week of April. As the parts roll in I will go ahead and keep you guys updated.

Here is what we have so far.

Here are the pinion and spur, case hardened gears that will last for ever. This is the 23:51 combo.

Here is the first gear carrier. This resembles a stock HPI gear carrier. In doing this you can now use what ever gear combination you have in your toolbox. On our test rig we have been running the stock 57T plastic spur gear without any problems.

Here is the second pinion adaptor. This is designed to bolt up to the turtle racing pinions

Here is the outer clutch cover.

Thats it for now we should have some more parts to show in a couple of days.

Also wanted to let you guys know that we will be posting some more video this weekend. We are going to get some footage on an essentially bone stock 5T with only a pipe, turtle racing clutch, and two-speed upgrade. We would like to give you guys an idea what what to expect from this product with the minimal requirements for your vehicle. We are also going to get some off-road footage which has yet to be shown with the two-speed. On top of that we will get some footage showing just how easy it is to adjust the shift point of the clutch. The clutch is externally adjustable with nothing to take apart.

It looks heavy, will you be offering it in alloy gear options for the true road racers? The lighter the better at least that is what they say.

Technically the gears are alloy. Alloy simple means a mixture of two or more materials. I assume you are referring to aluminum though. In the past I have worked with and used several aluminum gears. In general, aluminum gears do not hold up and wear out very quickly. I will be honest with you, this product was designed for the basher in mind with redundant systems to support the assembly. It was designed to hold up to the bashers running 50lb cars. As a result it is not light weight.

However, on our prototypes we were actually running plastic gears which held up OK. Because of the huge jump from a 17:57 to a 24:50 (this is what we had for awhile) we were shearing teeth from the gears. Other than that they were fine. In fact I still have one that I was running before switching to a steel gear. We have looked at molding the second gear from a composite plastic for the larger spur gears. This would significantly help out with the weight and should hold up for the racers.

At least with this current design, you can select plastic gears for the first gear.

OK got another piece of the puzzle in today. This is the clutch housing.

I went ahead and did a mock-up of the assembly. We are still waiting on the layshaft, and a couple of clutch parts. I will also get some photos up this weekend of the gear-cover.

Gear carrier with bearing pressed in.

First gear with a stock HPI 57T gear.

Second gear bolted up to the clutch housing

Everything assembled up to a mock layshaft

I'm curious about how much it weighs. Seems like there will be a lot of rotating mass.

Can you tell us how much this setup weighs compared to the stock setup with a TR pinion?

I like the gear ratios you have chosen and think it will work well, at least for my application and engine/pipe combo.

Really dude? You have now lost all credibility. You shouldn't act so ignorant it just makes you out to be a troll a lier or a *fill in the blank*. There are several videos out there of our two speed. We were the first to post videos. If you read the first post and any of my countless posts on this product you would know that it uses the stock tr gears for first. You also know that we are including a cover because, again, it's in the first post and you have even commented on our cover in the other forum.

Here is your post from two days ago in case you have already forgotten

lookin good!!the cover would be important pthe piece too..for the bashers like me.

According to your posts you pre-ordered your BRCP two-speed two or three weeks ago. How's that going for you. Why don't you stop digging around our two-speed threads and keep to your self.

I guess it depends on what gears you use. Our second gears where made thinner to help save weight. And you can use a plastic spur gear for first. I admit that it's not the lightest that it could be. However you are not forced to use two sets of steel gears, though this is an option should you choose.

We designed this for the bashers. As a result it is beefy with redundancy and over-engineered parts. This is more of a bashing product than a racing product. There are fundamental differences between the two. I have had several inquires though from racers and we will be looking at different gear sets as well as seeing what we can do to lighten things up. With each production run we can offer more options and design tweaks to improve based on the consumers needs. Fort the first run the we decided to be prudent and make something that wasn't going to break-down.

Actually what I am doing is not trolling. I am being up front and honest. I can let all the passive aggressive crap slide but when you start spreading lies about my product I will call you on it where ever I can. All of you guys involved in this are about as sneaky as an elephant in a china shop. Many people have noticed it and a getting fed-up.

As far as the new footage we have video but haven't posted it. We are trying to get some more footage on different terrains before posting anything.

Hey Brice, that's a wicked bit of kit you made there mate. Hats off to you for getting into the jump seat before the manufacturer ( and the other fellas, too)

If it's a go'er, would you sell the concept to HPI?
Or is there an intellectual property can of worms there?
either way, it looks killer, mate.

Why is there so much anger going between the 2 (2) speed companys???? I was always told when you speak to highly of your yourself/product  you/it will fail. All I"m saying is it doesn't matter who put out the 2 speed first or who made it first, whats going to count is the company that has the most versatile product, and I'll leave it like that. Why Can't We All Just Get Along

I would suggest in the nicest way possible that you re-read the threads. I have no issue with the other companies two-speed. I welcome the competition. I take issue with people that start spreading mis-information about my product. All I care about is my product I could care less what the other guy is doing. I will defend my product to the teeth. As of yet I have not said anything about the other companies two-speed. I have only posted to correct other peoples false statements about my product.
