What paint can I use on Solartex? I'm doing a 1/4 scale DR-1. Instructions with Solartex indicate Solarlac and says some paints won't stick to Solartex. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Mike

I just finished using rustoleum. I also used it about 8 years ago on a kadet, still looks fine. Even with all the dust on it. I've heard latex house paint works with a clear coat of min-wax poly-u. Dont know, will do an experiment before trying that.

I have used all types of paint on Solartex. All went on well and had good adheasion. Just make sure it is a fuel proof paint if you are using glow power. With gasoline, most anything works well including the cheap spray can paints. My favorite was Hobby Poxy Epoxy paints but they are no longer available.

p38nut,

I did like Edwin, just painted mine with Rustoleum spray (started the job anyway). I did some experimentation and found it to be superior to the Rustoleum water base paint, in shine, consistency of coating, resistance to heat of the iron and masking. I primed my bird with nitrate dope because it helped the shine, though it was not needed for adhesion. One of the other good qualities is that the Rustoleum spray is not prone to run like so many of the hobby spray paints I have used. My birds are gassers, so fuel proving is not a problem.

Good luck!

I ran in the engines on my twinstar yesterday (thats the plane I recently covered with solartex and painted with rustoleum). Ran about 4 tanks through while tweeking and adjusting the twins. The wing looked thorougly soaked, gooey mess. At home 409 and paper towels made it look like new again. Got rid of the finger prints and all.
