I went to that link regarding PC power supply http://www.marcee.org/Articles/PCPowerSupply.htm
In there it says to either connect the Power Good to a +5v or connect the PS on to a comman tried both of these even together fan still don't work think I have broken the PS somewhere as it worked earlier until I cut the wires I wasn't using maybe its something to do with that. Will try and get another PS and start again. Another it say connect 2 or 3 of the +12v and the negatives, didnt do this early but it work ?

Had the same problem when I cut off the 20 pin plug without really looking at it more closely. If you still have the cut off plug you will see two wires crimped on one pin (pin 11) A brown wire and an orange wire. If you have the "marcee info" you will see a chart showing this on the last page.

I load my 5V, red wire with 2, 1156 light bulbs in parallel for a 12.5VDC reading on the yellow and blackwires. Handles my Kokam 402 charger.

It worked woopie thanks, only getting 11.35v though using the 10watt 10ohm resister might try some bulbs on there.

Do a search in "batteries & chargers" for "PC POWER SUPPLIES".
There is lots of info. I think you'll find 10 watts is not enough unless you've got cooling for the resistor. Some are using the PS fan to cool their resistors, but I didn't want to blow additional hot air into the PS. I chose the 2, 1156, 12V lamps because they were just easier for me and provide a 1 ohm load. As I mentioned, the bulbs are in parallel; with one bulb my 12V line without load, reads 12.05V, with 2 bulbs it reads 12.09V. Without the bulbs, my PS read 11.86.

You can get sockets for the bulbs at auto parts stores.

I'm no expert on this. I'm very thankful for all the help rcuniverse provided.

If you can find a 400W - 450W power supply, it will give you 15A or more on the 12v circuit. Plenty for almost anything you want to do, including hot-wire. THose are around 50-60 US$ new.

Hello Guys,
I just took two leads (+12V & GND) out from a old PC of mine and use them as a power source for the E-Flite Pinacle Peak charger. I ususally set the charging current to below 2A (<1000mAh batteries). Is this configuration OK and safe?? I think I don't have to worry about connecting a load to the 5v terminals because other components of my computer are still hook up, right?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

If your measured voltage on the 12V DC wires is above 12V, your 5V DC is probably loaded OK.
Depending on your Amp. draw from the power supply, use 2, or 3 of each of the 12V plus and minus wires to carry the load from the PC PS.
Sure makes a large enclosure for a PS.

David
