Hello Glen.
The AC does have a bit less power than the FZ. But it is still more powerful than other 91 size 4 strokes and an excellent engine.
The throttle barrel is a bit different and the high speed needle is also changed.
That said , it can be confusing because the FZ is still marked AC.
If you have a small needle adjustment recessed in one side of the throttle barrel you have an FZ if not you have an AC. Either way you should have a great engine.

Another difference is the muffler. The AC used a straight threaded pipe that went to the straight muffler. The problem was that when the muffler took a hit in a bad landing or crash, the pipe wouldn't give and the head often would crack or bread. This = expensive.

The FZ has a softer, bent pipe that will give way if the muffler takes a hit.

The good news if your and AC owner is that you can get an FZ type muffler and put it on your AC. I would recommend this as I lost 2 mufflers and broke the head of my 1st AC before I picked up a second and put a FZ type muffler on it.

Yep the muffler is different ,but be aware many owners of AC models have updated to the FZ mufflers. Unless they have updated the fuel system too the muffler is no indication of which model you have.

I have an AC as well as an FZ. I agree about the AC muffler but with the straight thru muffler it seems to develop a lot of power. My FZ is still not fully broken in so it may be several tanks before I have an exact comparison. The AC has the second adjustment needle(I thought it was an FZ feature, which I have not touched) and it has a different H/S needle. The bottom line is that they are both powerful engines and if you can pick up an AC at a resonable price, go for it, I did and no regrets.

Now you guys are confusing me. I have a straight short pipe connecting the muffler to the head, but I also have a small needle adjustment recessed as described. It runs great and shines like new, no marks. The casting has AC on it, but I only paid $200 CDN for it $125 US.

Actually they BOTH use a straight pipe, The MUFFLER is angled on the FZ and straight with the AC .
The problem is many people will update parts on engines and it can be hard to tell unless you are real familiar with the line.
It sounds like you have an FZ, the AC mark is on both. It has been a problem from time to time when selling the FZ thru the mail "EXPERTS" will often come back with threats of law suits because they bought and paid for an FZ and the engine you sent is CLEARLY marked AC ! It is easier to send the money back than to educate the poor soul :

Either way you cut a heck of a deal. Over here they put people in jail for getting a deal like that

BTW what plane do you intend to put the engine into ?

A 4*60 almost ready to go. Now if the field would dry up after the snow. Too late for skis and too early for wheels, no floats for the lake!

Ok!
Watch out for STABILIZER/ELEVATOR flutter at high speeds.
With the 91 YS going down hill at full throttle can substantially shorten that planes flying life.
I have broken the stab thru the leading edge twice on different planes doing high speed dives. The leading edge is weak at the splice and tends to break thru the splice. With unhappy outcome.
Flying wires on the tail may be a good idea ,as well as balanced elevators and /or dual servos. I know this sounds extreme and it may bring out a lot of nay saying ,but is your plane heed what you care to heed.
Having the 91 on that plane is almost like putting a 120 on it and will load it beyond design and speed design limits.
Have fun but MANAGE the power and WATCH THE SPEED !

Thanks for the heads up. I have strengthened it some but will consider another look.
