No argument from me. Just tossing out ideas. I'm nowhere near getting my TF Corsair to the point of this experiment. I have so many projects out in front of it and I only have the tail framed up.

I don't know that you would have too many metal to metal contacts with the idea I outlined. It's all soldered together and the servo and cowl flap area would be nylon.

Let us know how things come out with whatever you decide to use.
Good Luck!

This should not degenerate into an argument, and that is not what I am trying to do - I love the flow of ideas and I hope you and others might make a mock-up of your schemes and prove them. I have a bit of time before I get to that stage of construction so the more ideas the better, and I'll borrow the best! .

Cheers
Brian

Lastly, here is a design i got from another RCU member... i think it's the simplest and will work on ANY size plane... If you don't understand the drawing, let me know and i'll explain it... I'm short on time at work right now...

It's always great to hear that there will be more well finished, scale looking Corsairs out there, and I really hope I can get the opportunity to meet some of you someday, and fly our Corsairs together.

As for the machine guns: I have turned over my molds to Dan Gipe, who is the current owner of Wing Mfg. Dan is a member of my club (ThunderBirds R/C Club of Kalamazoo/ Galesburg, MI). Wing Mfg produces MANY scale add on parts for warbirds, including the drop tanks I mentioned a few posts ago. So, Dan will be selling these (altho not yet listed on his web-site) for $5 a set + shipping. He will bring some to sell at the Toledo show (Wing Mfg. booth).
I have been selling a few sets for him also. My price is the same, but I include some instructions AND a scale size (1/8) drawing of the wing underside. I charge $5 for Priority Mail/ delivery confimation shipping, for a total of $10 (for 1 set, additional sets do not need extra shipping charges). Due to the fact that these are a low cost, nil profit item (not worth the time it takes to advertise/ package/ take to post office/ etc.), I now only accept payment via verified PayPal (which will include your shipping address with payment notication) on these, as it simplifies the process. I would prefer that PayPal funding does not originate from your credit card, as PayPal takes a cut out those payments. If you can make a non-credit card funded PayPal paymet, send it to "CorsairJock@Yahoo.com" and I will get them out to you. If you absolutely must use a credit card, e-mail me at the address above and I will provide you with a different e-mail address, which you can make payment to.

Thanks, and hope to see some of you this coming summer. Still looking for a warbird flying somewhere near US 41, between Gary, IN and Madisonville, KY, Labor Day weekend. Let me know.

I detailed my cockpit with bits made up from stuff scrounged from a relative who makes scale plastic models. I put together a few bits to make a gunsight for example - but it was pretty crude because I've not seen a decent picture ( with top and side and front views ) of the Corsairs gunsight. It's very difficult to see down into the cockpit so interior detailing is not too important, but aside from a pilot (you do have a pilot have flying your Corsair don't you?) the gunsight and those selector switches are the most prominent features. Can anyone post some really good gunsight pics?

I've included a pic of my instrument panel, but it's not too clear shooting through the canopy.

Brian

Found a good gunsight 1D pic for you (back of the recently acquired Kinzey book. Hope you can use it.

looking for help:

i'm new to this forum and to the hobby,i posted previously i'm building my 1st plane.a 1/8 scale top flight corsair...and things have been going well until today...i've finished my wing stab rudder and fuse ..when i tried to mate my wing and fuse things are just not fitting together very well ....1st the fuse seems to be cocked a little to one side when sitting on the wing...and upon further inspection of why this was happening ...i noticed the fin seems to be shifted a little also.....when i look at the tail end of my fuse i saw the tail is a bit twisted.......being a 1st time builder i became a little discouraged...wondering if my plane will ever fly .....so are these things normal when building ? and should expect things like this to happen on future builds.....but more importantly....first things first..does anyone have any advise on how i can correct theses problems .....??? any advise would be greatly appreciated.... thanks

Thanks Len, thats shows more close-up detail than anything else I've seen. It is obviously missing the graticule(?) (I think thats what you call the reflector glass) but happily it is quite like the shape I had in my crashed Corsair - and I still have that.
I have seen a couple of poor photos of 1A Corsair cockpits and the glass reflector plate was rectangular, not oval as in the photos posted earlier.

Cheers
Brian

A sketch or photo might help us to see where the problem is and enable us to give more specific advice. There are a couple of interesting points in your post, a Corsair is not suitable as your first model, and there is no way it can be your first flying model. More on that later.

Hopefully the problem is in the wing seat, and even if the fuse is definitely twisted the model should fly OK if the wing is 'square'with the tail and the fin/rudder. The most important factor is the wing to tailplane line. They must be level. Your wing seat will need building up on one side probably. Get in touch with your local model club or model shop (source through the AMA if you have to) and get some help as it could get complicated. You have to fix it without altering the incidence of the wing. If you can't get experienced help then keep asking for help here.

You say you are new to the hobby and this is your first plane. If that is the case then you have really jumped in the deep end. The Corsair is not an easy model to build, and the sheeting of the fuse is not easy. It is altogether a complex model, not suitable for beginners.
I am also concerned that you may crash it and lose heart. Learning to fly is easy with training but without is very discouraging and expensive. The path to succes is first join a club, or at least buddy up with an experienced flier. Then build (or buy/beg/borrow) a trainer. Look on my local club website for a guide on what you need, www.kmac.org.nz beginners section.

The Corsair is suitable as your 3rd model. Either finish it and put it away for a while, or put it away now. By the time you are ready to fly it you will have learned enough to know how to fix it yourself.

Don't get discouraged. it's a great hobby - stick with it.

Hoonz, that is for the 1D . I don't know if the 1A is the same. I'm building the 1D and thought you were too. Is reticule the word you were looking for?

edit--nope. reticule is apparently the cross-hairs and the reticle is the glass eyepiece itself.

I see your a newbe here. This thread is for Modifications to the TF Corsair. I recommend you start a new thread with your problem and post a photo or two and many will look in to see what can be done to help. This thread will be really hard to navagate for mods if we get alot of chat and gen build problems. No offense, Pete

According to my sources the standard gunsight for all Corsair’s in WW2 was the Mark VIII. This is the sight I posted some pictures of earlier in this tread with an oval reflector glass and no side plates to hold it. I believe that this sight also was used in most of the other US fighters in WW2 (with an exception of late P-51s)
The sight in the latest picture is also a Mark VIII but the top with reflector glass is missing. I think the sight with flat side plates that holds the reflector is an earlier type. Correct me if I’m wrong.
