This is the best gun sight images I have. I don't know if these images will do. The first two images from Vintage Fighters FG1-D Rebuild, described as a Mark VIII. The third from FG1-D "Marines Dream" with an extra dark glass plate (Sunglass ?)
Accordingly to my books most of the WWII corsairs had a standard Mark VIII reflector sight.

Fantastic! Thank you for those, the best images I've seen and now I can make a much better gunsight for my current Corsair that I have just started. Only missing view is from the top, I assume there is a light shining up through a lens to project range markings on to the glass circle.

Brian

I do not have a picture from the top, but the sight is completely round, with exception of the rubber protection pad on the cockpit side. It is notable how much of the forward view that is blocked by the gun sight. That is maybe the reason why most restored corsairs fly without them. Here is another view with gun sight light on.

Well,
Many of us are glassing their Corsairs and would love to show the fabric detail of the outer wing panel. Both Luke and Jeff managed to pull it off with two thicknesses of sheeting. Awhile back in another thread I believe Bob H reported the was able to mimic the look by using Chartape and glassing over it.

Here is my attempt to reproduce his work. I took 1/16 wide tape and placed it where the ribs are located. The tape is burnished well. Next I applied the glass as per Jeff H (proflooney) with Deft lacquer. After one coat it looks good with good adhesion. Will give more coats and post more photos. This photo is of the tape before glassing. Pete

How do you plan to define the perimeter of the fabric area? I'm liking your method for this part of the wing. Much easier than shaving out the wood as Luke did. My hands aren't that steady!

Mark,
I did not want to outline this area with tape but rather just let it blend in with the rest of the wing. The effect looks good so far. It looks like I have good contact along the tape edge. My digital camera is acting up so only the initial photo came out. I'm spending $ on planes and not cameras So I will try to get more posted tomorrow. Pete

edit: you posted same time as me the didto goes to previous post.

------------

dito, i was thinking of doing what i heard earlier on this post (or maybe another not sure) but taking thicker cheeting over all areas and useing the 1/16 over the area wiht ribs and then making cap strips sounded painful and i didnt look forward to the front of the dip with the compound curve there.

this method looks much nicer, wht kind of tape is that? ive never heard of it b4...

(will post pics of my corsair when i get them... i took em but cant upload em to my comp. nothing exciting though its just the skeleton)

I believe its just "chart tape". Comes in many widths, this being one of them.

thanx.

what kind of glass is that, it looks very smoth. and it lays very flat too. much niver than the stuff ive used in the past.

also, about the gear reduction mentioned earlier, cna u put a gear unit on a mag 1.08? i didnt no you could put em on gass engens period so... it would be nice to turn a 20" prop that scale enough? all youd have to wory about is the plane rolling and the prop hitting the ground.

btw, if ne 1 got some more pics of thire door set up id love to see em, though im leaning towards the spring method shown earlier. im pretty sure i can do that esp since gravity does the hard part for you and all you need to do is keep the doors from flaping back and forth. seems easy, wish i though of it.

The RCV motor has the gear reduction built into it. The motor is unlike any other glow engine you'll see, anywhere. Here's the website http://www.rcvengines.com/model_home_page_full.htm

Pete
Thanks for the additional pictures. I really like how your wing looks there with the glass laid down over the tape. Keep up the hard work!

Still looking good after three coats of poly. Sorry for the glare trying to get a good angle so the depth of the tape is seen.

Using Sig 0.56 glass cloth.

looks nice, ill have to try some of that. in past ive used 2oz glass from fibreglast.com good stuff but hard to lay in compound curvs.

also, is there a reductino unit that i can add to an existing engine, say maybe a magnum 1.08?? im simply not satisfied with the 14" prop, it looks so wrong

oh btw, try lifting hte LE till the TE cant be seen and al lthats seen is the area with the tape, this should outline the depth of the tape nicly.

now that my glue set up, time to find f8... i wonder where i put it...

2 oz cloth?!?!?! WAY TOO heavy for such a small plane. 3/4 oz is the absolute heaviest fiberglass cloth to use on any TF 60 size bird.
notice that Pete is using .56 oz, that is about the lightest cloth you can get.

never said i used it on a plane.

i build rockets too ya no...

theres lighter cloth than .56 oz, go to a local auto store ive seen cloth in the .2 oz areas.

ne 1 no of a say 16 X 4 or so 3 blade? i figure my engine will turn it and it will look more scale than the 14"
