First off just want to say thanks to everyone making this such a greatttt website!! I am pretty much new to R/C flying. I am looking for something under $200. Moving radio equip. etc. doesnt bother me as i just want something to fly that isnt a piece of crap. At the top of my list is the 3 ch. Aerobird. Likes-proportional throttle and seems like it can take a huge beating. Probably a very good thing for me. Only thing i dislike about it is how the steering gets screwed up sometimes. But other than that i think i would like the Aerobird. The second on my list is the T-Hawk. Dislikes-not proportional throttle only on/off. Likes-all the extras . I would like any advice from any on which to get. Also I was wondering if anybody out there lives on a farm and have ever tried landing either of these planes on bean stubble or snow. I live on a farm and in the late fall, winter, early spring have way too plenty room too fly. (I think the closest RC airfield is about 15-20 miles. And since the main time I could fly is in the winter (and we get PLENTY of snow) I was wondering if anyone ever put skiis on either of these and how it flew with them.-Pics would be GREAT with them on!!

thanks for all the help!!

might want to think about a sky scooter pro. will outfly either one of those, and is easy (and cheap) to repair, it is nothing but foam so a little epoxy and you are flying.

Also, don't forget auxillary costs, such as additional battery packs and a decent charger.

The Arobird is a good plane but you can get a Firebird11 or a Firebird XL. I strongly sugjest the XL, I'v had one almost a year now and it haves the same 380 moter ,also cheaper than the Arobird.

Yeah, I have looked at the Firebird XL-overall i think it would be a nice plane. But however I also think the 3rd ch. for ele. would be extremely nice. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have an Aerobird and the one thing that bothers me is the lack of deadstick control you have with the stock tail or the aerobatic tail. I bought the aerobatic tail to see if it would give me a little more control in glide situations and I could'nt notice ant improvement . You have to keep some battery to make sure you can whip it around when you turn otherwise it takes quite a bit of roomto turn let alone any attitude adjustment. Went to the slow stick and glad I did.

I purchased the aeirobird as my fisrt plane. It was ok. The reason why I went with the aeirobird is because I had a farm to fly in, also and it appealed to me the way it lands. If I had it all over to do again I would NEVER buy one of these planes IF you plan on going to the next level. The aerobird radio gear is worthless on any other plane. I would get a GMS slow stick or something of that nature the requires a normal radio. The slow stick plane can land in a field but you need a flat hard surface to land on.
As far as the skis go you would just have to try something.

The thing that guys use here is a set of floats for skis. Might be an idea.

I been flying an Aerobird for a few days now. I love it, its a great re-introduction to the sport after a 12 year hiatus. The Aerobird is a much better choice over the Firebird XL if you have any experience at all. I've flown both the XL and the Aerobird and the Aerobird is simply smoother and more maneuverable.

Anyway, with regar to a ski.... I expect I'll be flying during the winter as well and we sometimes have snow in Jersey. I don't think I'll need a seperate ski so loang as te snow is even a little bit crusty. I intend to simply remove the landing gear and run a piece of reinforced packing tape (or maybe multiple pieces of electrical tape) down the centerline of the belly of the aerobird. I'll be sure to seal off the holes that usually hold the landing gear and will be sure to tape up the two screw-heads located on the bottom of the bird. Depending on the depth and quality of the snow I may even tape the cockpit hatch closed to keep snow from getting into the battery compartment. Once that is done, I expect to land on the snow as it does in the grass. The tape is simply there to prevent scuffing and to keep snow from entering the bird or rusting out the screws.

Good luck in what ever you do!
