I am building a Ziroli 70" P47 and am looking to get some latex paint mixed for the zinc chromate color. RCWarbirds has a link to a site (http://www.cris.com/%7ERojo1/camocolors.html) that has the CMYK formulas for military aircraft colors. The formula listed for the zinc chromate apparently is not correct. It comes out closer to a brown. I tried a few of the other formulas and the colors are correct. Does any one know where I can find the correct formula?

Try going to a marine store and you can buy zinc chromate in a spray can. They use it for prining the aluminium outdrive castings when the paint comes off. Enough there to last a long time.

If you want latex mixed to look like the Zinc Chromate - Burl had the right idea - get the testors paint and put it on a primed piece of scrap material like you intend to spray on the model. Take that material painted the color you want to Home Depot or any other major paint dealer and have them match the color in latex.
I believe testors offers several colors of zinc chromate (WWII, modern era, etc).

Good luck,
Dave

Chuck, Just get the Model Master paint at the hobby shop. You'll only need a couple of bottles and it is the correct color. Do not use spray cans of real zinc chromate as it is highly toxic and should be shot with a seperate air source mask. It is really nasty stuff and there is really no use for it on models. Also it varys in color from light to dark green. Don

Polly S available at hobby shops is water based and goes on nicely with an airbrush with excellent coverage and more fuel resistant than good ole Testor's oil based paints. Down side is Polly S is a 'fast' dry acrylic and tends to clog an air brush rather quickly; necessitating a quick cleaning with water or alcohol. I've also used Polly S for the anti glare olive drab area on the nose of my P-47 and it is proving to be durable and fuel resistant kinda like "house paint," I think--hope this helps

Richard, Testors Model Master are also water base acrylic and are just like the Poly S. BTW about 20 years ago I did a Mustang and I called the Poly S Co and they made me up some 8oz bottles of paint. Don
