I havenoticed that this forum has been only about 3D ARFs. And while I have flown most of these (and they fly good) I feel like you guys are overlooking one of the best 3D planes out there, this airplane is the Laser3D. By the time you finish building the laser 3D you will have around $225 in it. I know you can buy your arf for less, but the handfull of us who fly the laser3d laugh when everybody is trying to do the nose high harrier rolls and hover 50 ft. off the ground. Tail touches are no problem with the laser 3D (and it looks better than the UCD). I have a saito .72 in my laser3d and the all up weight is 4 1/4 lbs. (Now the manuf. says the weight should be a full pound more but when you build you can do these things )

No digital camera. I do have a picture of these airplane but its on a roll of film that hasnt been taken up yet. Soon as I get them developed and get to a scanner we can see a pic. The website that Lasermodels has is http://www.bestrc.com/lasermodels/airplanes/lsma4306.html
I think that the covering job that the company has on this airplane is ugly, it does not do the airplane justice. Mine is covered more along the lines of the mini (electric) laser3d scheme. I put lightening holes in the belly of the airplane in the form of my name The next pictures I take of mine will have to be in flight b/c after 15 flights the airplane is starting to get a few battle scars. I was warned before I bought my first one that I would crash it b/c you feel so comfy doing things that your really not qualified to do. And I did crash it, I rebuilt it and gave it to my dad and built me a new one. But the other day I was torque rolling in 20+ mph wind and caught a pretty good strong gust and it fliped the model to the ground, no major damage, nothing 4 or 5 hours of patch work didnt fix. I was going to get around to flying it again last weekend but I started working on my modified SPAD Qhor (and man does this thing fly good too). I should fly it again this weekend, I could do it earlier but I have been busy designing a profile plane.

Interesting, maybe I will have to take a look. And that airplane could look pretty good with the proper covering job. Here is a link to tower for purchasing info. And with a 58" wingspan @ 4.5lbs, it should be a monster in the air!

Is it an easy build? Maybe you should start a thread in the kit building forum, I'd like to get some more info on this plane as I am in the market for a .40 size 3d machine.

Regards,
Philip

FYI
The Funtana .40 actually has a 59 1/8" wingspan even though the advertising says 56". It is extremely light. Many are reporting just under 5 pounds w/ careful selection of radio components and engine. Could probably put one together in about 3 evenings.
Laser3D would be great if you want to build.

sack the laser 3d, if u wanta kit , a nice cheap one that does some damn amazing 3d then the www.rcworld.co.uk 3Styla is just the ticket.

I have the 2m Exclusiv Modelbau funtana and it's gorgeous, not only to look at but also of course to fly... It flies like everything is in slow motion! I'm gonna get the funtana .40 as soon as they becoem available in the UK... that might be as late as next year though

Pic of it (i realise it's a well published shot now!)

Model Sport video magazine did a segment on the Laser 3d and showed some of its flying capabilities I have the issue its MS0503. It looked awesome so I ordered the Laser 3D this morning from Great hobbies. I was going to order the funtana but when I seen that this one has over 1000 sq.in and with a wing loading this low it has to be a great fun fly 3D.

Here is a link to Model Sport http://www.modelsport.com/issues/info0503.htm
The video trailer shows only little bit of the Laser 3D but the full video has a good segment on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for building this kit? How well does the saito 72 fit and how did the balance work out?

Good deal!! Im glad to hear that you ordered the plane. The guy in the model sport video doesnt do the plane justice . The saito .72 mounts right up on the engine mount provided. No cutting or shaving is needed. The kit goes together really fast and every piece is laserlocked. You will find that even the sheeting for the wing is cut to the right width and the gussets for the stick built tail are cut out as well. Though the kit is laser lock my only advice is to take your time on the wing, mine came out a little warped so I spent a day or so straightening it out with a spray bottle, flat surface and weight. Go ahead and do yourself a favor and add a couple of extra gussets on the elevator (around the tabbed region) for strength reasons (especially helps for a "wall" or a "parachute" . Feel free to cut come ligthening holes into the bottom of the fues. I even cut two out on the side behind where the servos mount and two out from the side around where the tank would be sitting. You can also make the model lighter but cutting lightening holes in the wing webbing. I have also heard from a friend that he cut his wing tips off and he can knife edge with less coupling, and harriers are a lot more solid. He did say something about loss in super slow performance however (including landing). My airplane came out tail heavy but I left it this way with the battery pack far forward and it flies great...1/4 throttle inverted, hands off. If you use a computer radio make sure to set that elevator rate on low for landings, but all out for 3D. Have fun, if you have any questions post a msg or email me.

I built the laser 3d with a 46 fx and it came in at 4lb 7oz. It was built very light. Then the stab blew up in the air. I recommend adding gussets in the stab. It was very fun to fly.

I just finished my funtana and went to the extreme on servos. HS 81 micro on throttle and 225 bb on the surfaces, small 720 nimh for battery. 50 sx engine. It came in at 5 lb 4 oz. I have been very mellow with it since it has been over 110 for the last 16 days. I can say that it has an insane roll rate. hopefully it will be down to 105 this weekend so I can fly it harder.

ahhh...thanks for reminding me. If you build this plane you will need to put somekind of flying wires on the tail. I opted for the kevlar ones b/c they are the lightest that I know of. I heard about this from a friend before I flew my old one or built my new one. So far I have had no problems and I am using high torque servos all the way around.

P.S. to anyone that is building this plane or wants to build it I will anwser ANY questions you have just post them here or email me. There is plenty of spots for lightening holes and a place or two you need to beef up for EXTREAM 3D. If your from GA and want to see how it flies send me a msg and we might can arrange something

You may want to do a search on the laser3D........there were a couple threads on it a few months ago.

We have a laser 3D with a magnum 61 4 stroke. We had a YS 63 in it but it never ran very good. This plane built very easy and we took some weight out of it, and we strengthened the elevators, because we heard that everybody was blowing them off. this plane is AWESOME, and extremely light. i think much much better than the UCD 3D or something like that which i have flown. The Laser 3D IS one of the best 3D planes out there.

I received my Laser 3D today I can't believe it made it here overnight. I'm happy to say everything made it safe and sound no damage. I was surprised to see a nice one piece fiberglass cowl and the rudder is a pull pull setup with included hardware. Did you use all the supplied hardware such as the hinges and tail wheel assy. or did you upgrade? How has the landing gear block and engine mount holding up? Any reinforcement required in those area's. Any suggestions or advice would be great as I am new to kit building I've been building arf's and spads till now. So far from looking at the plan's and reading the instructions it doesn't look too difficult. ' ' But I guess I'll see once I get started. Thanks everyone for you help and info.

We have the standard set up it calls for and it is working just fine. the only thing you might want to be careful of is the elevators. that hudge counter balance catches the grass very easy. we have ripped both elevators off a couple of times just from landing because it sits so low to the ground and the elevators are so big. Ive heard that people are not using the wood mount that it come with also, ours is holding up fine. Well have fun with it, it is an awesome plane.

I have had both good and bad experiences with the motor mount. The first laser I bought from a guy that built the plane and the mount held up fine. In the one that I built the mount viberated off on the ground, but I see this as a user error (on me). I was in a hurry to get the plane together for a particular fly in and I wanted to mount the motor. I had no Epoxy so I tacked it in with CA and later went over it with epoxy (which is generally a bad idea) and I found out why I heard that you should never do that when my motor came off after the 3rd flight (on the ground thank god). As for the
