can anyone please help me with this. I want ONLY people who know what to do to help.

I have the old T-maxx with the .15 in it. I can't tune it right at all, I just got it sealed and I went to drive it today. This didn't just happen today but everytime when I drive it. I get it tuned to where it sounds and runs great. Then after a while it stalls. Its the glow plug. The little wire inside is all jammed up. I'm pretty sure it means too much gas is getting in. So when I put a new plug in and I try to lean it alittle, it won't start or if it does then it shortly stalls under ANY acceleration.

Please tell me what's wrong and how to fix it.

I'm thinking about sending my engine to Traxxas to see if they can figure it out.

Thanks in advance,
Larry

Are you running a hot or cold plug? Sounds like its running too lean already, so maybe you should try richening it up a bit. You could try a colder plug also if you're running a hot one now. In my experiences, when the coil in the plug is shrivveling up, its too lean and hot. Try to richen up your low speed needle a little.

It sounds like you are running way too lean.

The wire inside the plug is shriveled up because it got too hot and melted up-wards, not because their was to much fuel and it plugged it up.

The stall out is more than likely because the engine is getting too hot, which causes the stall out. Try richening the engine up instead of leaning it out.

You know.. mine was doing that today.
Important. LET THE ENGINE WARM UP before you do anything!

I dont mean just let the head, let the whole thing warm up.

Then richen the HSN by 1/8 turns at a time. Leave the rest alone,
IF your glow wire came off.. its running LEAN!!! Not rich.

what color is the glow plug? When run lean the plug turns white (burns out). and when rich.. it gets clogged with oil.

I'm almost sure your motor is flarin out because its lean.

Richen it!

there are a few things it could be....

1 you have debris in your motor... which can damage the plugs like that.

2 your type of plug you are using, as in if you are using a short or a long plug, changes the firing characteristics and thus when the engine "fires" it damages the coil in the plug..... there ways you can fix this, by adding another head shim under the heatsink, or even try taking one out.

Thanks guys....

I ran (I think) a McCoy MC-8 then after one went bad I put in a MC-9 (I don't remember which one was first).

the only thing about making it more rich is that it sometimes stalls or sounds sluggish and sounds like it's about to stall.

I do let the engine warm up, I wait a few minutes and drive it around alittle. then bring it in to tune.

Thanks,
Larry

If you are running the MC9 now you can probably lean it just a tad now since that is a colder plug. Do you have a temp guage? That would really making tuning easier. If not sounds like you just gonna have to do some slow fine tuning.

Hey mine did that also. I was running with a o.s. A3 then it fried that one up and then it fried up an A5 right after that one after only running for 5 minutes (if that). The engine was very old. I went in and took it all apart. The piston and sleeve was destroyed. I would check up on that. Also, its clutch was fried. Well and ....... ok ok the whole engine was fried. The guy that i bought the truck off of had just so happened to offer me a engine for $25 bucks about 2 days before it happend (LESS then 1 gal through it ). I got the engine in and tuned and it has A HELL OF ALOT more power and can now burn the tires in dirt (FINALLY LOL)

Also, mine started to run only really really rich and was super slow and sluggish. How old is your engine it may be time for a new engine.

Ram,
Hey i see that your buggy is all together... how long has it been together. I havent been on for a long time i guess. How do you like it???

ok, thanks...

i'm just wondering (before I get it) how to tune with a temp guage? like if it's too hot do you lean or richen it?

Thanks,
Larry

If its too hot you richen it(high speed), too cool lean it out. Just make sure you do it in very tiny increments. Took me a while to learn that. Used to working on full scale cars ao I wanted to turn the hell outta everything. Tiny baby adjustments and then make a few runs to let it see what its gonna do and then readjust if necessary.

i think that's what i was doing wrong, tuning in big increments. that's what my dad thought was wrong.

Thanks for the help. I was planning on getting Venom's temp guage.

Like Misery said if your blowing plugs almost every time out you have debris in your motor. If the plug is gone before you get to try and tune it I would say it's the engine. I had the same problem with that engine a long time ago and it was the engine. You can run lean and rich for a tank or 2 and not blow plugs the way your describing.

the radio shack temp gauge is made by raytek, dont throw it out!

also, if you have any deformation of the coil in the glow plug it almost certainly means youre running too lean.
