The Dragon pilot fits fine. its more of an issue getting it to stay in place. and keeping the body parts from moving around. I snaged one off ebay myself. missed the
first two. it was about the same time period. must of been bidding aginst you.. lol

Yea, I did loose one at the last minute before I won this one... you must have got the good one!
Looks like I won the wrong one... seller won't even send me a tracking number. It was supposedly shipped on 3/15. I hate playing the waiting game! lol

I used magnets in my pilot and cockpit area and to keep my canopy open or closed (it slides but is not powered) works very well and hidden too. Mine is the .60 size but I have lots of detail in her. Machined my own oleo struts and wheels. Actuating gill flaps, Scale exhaust stacks for cooling, retract tail wheel with functioning gear doors . I'm finishing up more mods from the winter but I flew her for a few months last year. Here are some links of the build. More pics and info on the TF 60 P40 forum here on RCU. I have added much more since these vids and pics though and better refinements too. I'll do a final when I'm complete (still have panel lines rivets and weathering to do too....Then onto my 80 Zero with radial..I have all the stuff I need including the engine for that build but want to get the P40 off the bench first.

Yeah i hate waiting to. Hoping to have mine ready to fly in a few more days. My tail wheel retract
acts weird. it sticks in the up position and then slams down. the sticking is in the air cylinder.
I can feel it when i move it back and forth by hand. ive tryed every thing to slow it down
but if your not carfull it wont come down at all

I also bought a Dragon WWII P-40 pilot and am in the process of antimating him.  I purchased an animatronic kit from Churchill Creations that will allow me to have him wave and look around.  The animation is controlled by a small servo controller that can be programmed with the desired movements and then looped.

Fortunately this does not take any talent, just put the servos in the body kit and program the controller.

Hey Lomcevak...since its coming from China you may have to wait a little longer but I would bet that your investment is safe, just hard to wait when the cash has been allocated

Hey Warhawk, it sounds like your cylinder is a little dry...you might try a little marvels tool oil to loosen it up. Just a drop or two is all it takes.

It was coming from CA... and it finally arrived today. Been working on getting him installed tonight. Looking pretty good for the maiden this weekend.

Lomcevak, you are going to love how this plane flys(like all Top Flite models)! Two words of caution...It will pull hard left once the tail wheel lifts on take off,so make sure you have a lot of rudder control. On landing you need to come in with a slight amount of power or grease it in for it has a tendancy to porpise down the runway.
I have a DLE55 in mine and it will knife edge all day long so yours should be a rocket ship!
Good luck with the maiden and hope you post a video!

Hey Groovy.. what do you think is causing the bouncing? i was wondering if the hard weels had anything to do with it. seems like it would just bounce on the springs
sence the tires cant absorb any of the shock. Have you tried less flaps. perhaps their creating to much lift. ive been a little concerned about this. i have a 500 ft paved
runway and the big warbirds tend to eat it up in a hurry.

I love my P-40 it fly's just like the P-51 and P-47 that I also have. I found with the P-40 you need to throttle up just before touching on the mains and maybe you need a little more expo on the elevators. If the elevators have to much throw or to sensitive you will ballon before touch down. Just my own obsevation with mine. Once the mains touch thet stick.

thanks Bob

I used a full bodied pilot (not a Dragon Pilot) and I used a ZIP tie around his waste like a seat belt, and his clothes hides the tie.
Used a Dremel to put two small holes in the silver seat and wrapped it around. Used a clear tie that blended in with seat.

You have to look hard to see it.

Seems to be secrue enough.

Hope so, canopy glued on.

PS:

Also put a little CA on his boots and hands where thet touched the cockpit and floor.....etc....

That pretty much what I was thinking. I used some gorilla glue on him last night, now I am wanting to zip tie him in too.
Thanks!

I plan to do both. I already have him glued, now I am planning to run a zip tie around him for a little insurance.

Warhawk,as far as the pilot i used fishing line to hold him in...lol.He wiggles around a little but no big deal.I wish he had long pants because his knees look like he has prosthetic legs.
As far as the bouncing on landing,I come in with full flaps and a little power and pray for a greased landing, hoding the flare and trying to let the wheels just skim down on the runway.Always a nail biter,Not sure what causes it to bounce so much but I think the short length from the wing to tail has a lot to do with it.I've seen Gee Bees that do the same same with the short stubby fusalages. Once down it seems to be another issue keeping it tracking straight...but thats another story. My wingtips will be razor sharp soon...lol.
Hopefully someone will will have a soution to this that they can share.
