This is always been something I wondered about. It seem that more than a few people look down at ARF'S..

It seems a good well built Arf can be a good thing
Way back when I was younger I built planes from balsa and used dope to cover them but not it seem that time is one thing a lot of lack. So being able too get a good ARF seems too helps many people be able too fly planes they can never build.

I look at the Kadet Sr as an example. Its a great plane that many people were unable too build from the sticks.
The ARF has put people into the air that will now be better flyers.

Just my 2 cents any comments...

Oh No! Here we go again.

Here is my challenge to those tempted to start another fuss about ARFs vs. Kits. Try and say something that was not covered in the 359 posts of the last thread covering this topic.

A kit is a challenge to build. A arf is basily putting toghether a built plane that has no challenge to it. If some one thinks its hard to build a ARF, well, try to build a 1/5 chipmunk to scale ,then build a ARF youll find that 9 hours of work is easier than hundereds of hours, lol. Plus you get more pride from a kit knowing you build it, your time, sweet, blood. My .2$

Why?
Because they're deficient in maturity.
Flying is what's important. What you use to do that isn't!
And these immature folk will criticize anything at any time.
Ignore them.

Unfortunately they're not always almost ready. All of the arfs I've built needed some form of mod here and there. Wish they were better built for the price paid. I will still build a kit if I really need top reliability and performance. Just my 2C

You said it Dago..."your time"...If I had "hundreds of hours" I would (as I did in high school) build kits. For me, it is more satisfying. But for the next few years just being able to fly is my favorite accomplishment.

I do agree with you on having the time. Arfs cut back the time so you can fly, but i love moding my planes so kits make it worth while.

Because they think there's something macho about cutting and sticking wood.

Me? I make ribs out of wrought iron and use bronze leading edges.

. I stick them together with gold 6 inch nails and run the engines on hydrofluoric acid. My last 40 size plane weighed in at 148 pounds.

Impressed? I bet you are!

I must admit it needs a few clicks of throttle when landing otherwise it tips stalls and I have to pay, yet again, to resurface the damaged concrete runway.

sheesh

OUCH, maybe the plane would look better hanging in the living room, right. i bet repaving the runway time and time again isnt so cheap. and i bet rebuilding the engine and buying a new prop has to be expensive, lol.

I think there is a certain skill involved in building that some folks like me will never have. Also a level of patience I don't possess. I went down to my old friend's house today to see the PT-19 he is building for me. It is truly a work of art. You folks who can build should show some mercy to those of us who can't.

I think for newbies the arf has to be they way to go. The odds of a crash are great when ya 1st fly .. Why lost all those hrs of building....
