Ok, we all know that Minnflyer and I are great fans of the Ultra Sport planes (40, 60, & 1000). For those that don't know this, Mike and I campaigned Great Planes for almost 3 years in order to get the to bring back the Ultra Sport kits. Since that time that it's been back on the market many people have taken the plunge and have purchased and built an Ultra Sport. The reaction to their first flight is almost universal. Almost everybody falls instantly in love with this plane, and after one flight they understand why Mike and I went to so much effort to get this plane back on the market.

So, Mike and have been talking and we think that it's time for us to all join together behind the plane that we all love so much. We are starting here the Ultra Sport brotherhood. This group is dedicated to those that have flown this plane and now understand why we call this the best flying sport plane ever built!! To join just post here, or send a PM to Mike and I and we will get you your USB (Ultra Sport Brotherhood) number. We ask that all proudly display their Ultra Sport Brotherhood # in their signature lines. Let's all tell the world about this great plane and bring more into the brotherhood!!!

hi rcken
got a question for you.
on the list I an listed as #97 but on some of the replies, etc
I am listed as #98.
so which one is correct? I assume that since I am #97 on list
that it is the correct one.

thanks
pt19 flyer

Acording to the list you are 97 so unless I copied it and pasted it wrong I believe that is the number you can go with. Is that going to be ok? If you wish to be another number perhaps you can talk to the modeler that has that number and ask for a swap, it wont hurt to ask but you may or may not like your answer.

Everybody that is interested in getting a number please by all means go ahead and grab the next number and send me and or RCKEN a message that you have the number and one of us will update the roster accordingly.

I took my US 60 out for it's maiden flight today. What a day it was. I am so impressed with this plane. I think this is probably the best build I've done, not a single click of trim was required for straight and level flight and no weight was needed for a perfect c/g. I took 4 planes to the field today and only flew the Ultra Sport. I didn't want to fly anything else. Two of the experienced pattern pilots at my club flew the Ultra Sport and both felt very comfortable flying this plane and both were very impressed by the Ultra Sport. Thank you to RCKen and Minnflyer for getting Great Planes to bring this plane back.

I still have a couple of things to do with the covering. It came out at 7lb 8oz and is powered by a Saito 1.00 w/13.5X9 APC. The E-flight 60-120 retracts with robostruts worked perfectly. Vertical flight is out of sight. it just keeps climbing until you pull back on the throttle. I did all of Minnflyer's modifications and moved the canopy back 3", gives it a kinda pointy look. I'm as happy as a witch in a broom factory.

Hello everyone,

I got this kit for Christmas a year or so ago and am getting ready to start on it soon. Need to finish up my GP Extra 300 then will start on it next I think.

Could I join the brotherhood?

Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone.

Jim, I think the only requirement is to have the dream of building and flying an Ultra Sport. Grab a number and welcome to the brotherhood.

Mannn, thanks for your input, David.  Yes, I've used 9202's before in one of my older helis.  Am also, thinking of going the Sbus route since I need to purchase receiver, servos and all.  Maybe even and HV system with a lipo to keep weight down.  Your thoughts?  If you have a picture, send me one.  I'd like to see your servo setup.  Also thinking of doing flaps.  Did you do flaps?  This plane will have more servos than I've had in a model.  Thanks for your help, Rich

Hey Rich,

I feel like such a heel about not finding your questions until now.......... Personally, I don't think it would be necessary to go with a HV system with LiPo batteries in the Ultrasport 1000. If the plane is built per the plane, it's going to be a fairly heavy so saving an ounce or two isn't going to make that much difference and the reduced weight will have no affect on how the plane performs. Unfortunately, I no longer have my US 1000 so I cannot get any pictures of the servo installation, but the fuse is wide enough to install all four servo's side by side. It also helps if you stagger the servo arms with the Rudder and throttle servo's facing the front of the plane and the two elevator servos facing the rear so the servo arms don't interfere with each other. I did not have flaps in my US 1000 and since the plane is quite heavy for it's size, mine didn't have any trouble slowing down. Good luck with your Ultrasport. Again, I apologize for the delay in responding.

I hope all of my Ultrasport brothers have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.................

David

jimm, you may want to read through minnflyer's build thread, it's for the US60 but the 40 and the 60 would be pretty much the same.

Hey All,

I am not in the brotherhood program I guess, But I bulit my first Ultraport 60 when the plans came out in RCM back in 1989.. I still have that ultrasport and am getting ready to re-cover it ..
I've had four different engines on it and the OS that's on it now will probably stay for a while.. I think my plane has well over 1000 flights on it and the covering is tired.. It is a very good flyer you sure and I have allways liked them.
I am glad to see one can get kits of them again, that would make it easier, but I like to plans build anyway. I allways have thought I'd build another one but other projects seem to prevale instead. I'll post some pics if anyone would what...

Happy landings to ya.

I WILL TAKE BROTHER 142! I just finished building my 1st U.S. 40. I took it out New Years day for its maiden flight. Now , during the build I have been reading some of the post here. But after the first flight I was shocked at how great it flies! It was very true and straight and balanced in flight (which I built it to be!) It was also faster than I thought it would be with the Pro 46 TT with a 10/6 prop. I will try 10/7 or 10/8 later as it breaks in more. I can,t wait to practice pattern flying with it! I am a believer now!

I agree Ranc68, I just recently finished my US60 5 or 6 wks ago and it is by far the best, straightest flying airplane I own. I love it more every time I fly it. I'm not a pattern flyer by any stretch of the imagination but this plane is great for learning pattern. I'm taking it to a fly-in this weekend and there will be a bunch of pattern flyers there, I can't wait to let them see it. I've actualy finished the covering on and it looks great but I've not taken any pictures of since.

hi jimm

good luck on your GP extra 300. had one once, not a bad flyer but it won't stay airborne without some
power. all my crashes and bad landings involve cutting back to much on power.
so to keep it flying never, never go to idle expecially on landing approaches.

again good luck
