Now now Jimmy,
The boy stepped in it on his own.
Let him figure out how to scrape it off the same way.

Hey Spence,

Serg and I will have to share a couple of our speed secrets with you to put the hurt on Leadfoot for those comments.

Hey Skids, Who's side are you on anyway! You are not mad about the picture are you? Thanks for sticking up for me Tommy. Spencer started it!

Lead,

I don't pick sides, just add fuel to the fire. And no, I have no problem with the photo. I had heard that Roy was there early in the AM, just didn't see him.

Spence,

The boys are right. If you go poking a stick at a hornets nest, expect to get stung.

T-Gun,

I stand corrected.

Spence,
I told you that this year you would be on a learning curve. You've got two of the four races under your belt and are doing just fine. You did have that plane running fast Sunday. Good job. A little more practice and you'll get more comfortable.

Spencer, you are really doing a great job racing these planes. I didn't have the guts to do it at your age so I admire that. Just keep at it and you'll be bringing home the plaques in no time! You know if you need any help with anything we are all here to help you.

I don't know why nobody saw Roy at the races. I saw him and even snapped a photo. Here's proof........

I don't know where you got that phony shot of me, but I ain't that pretty. And I am in better shape than the guy in the picture. HE looks like a walking marshmallow.
So now you go from photo shopping Tommy to attacking me in the same way?
I think your next race will be interesting Mr. Leadfoot.
I may have to see if Tommy will let me use one of his bad guy racers to so you can follow me around the course.

Well Mr. Batty, if you want me to follow you around a course may I suggest using anybodys plane other then Tommys. The only way I would be behind one of his planes is if I'm lapping him. Just a suggestion.

Nice video. Looks like those things are really screaming. Thanks for posting TG.

To Mongo44, thanks for posting all those pics earlier.

Q: Where did all the chop top Mustangs come from i.e. Strega, Miss Foxylady, Sumthin' Else,...? They sure look nice, but they all look like different kits. Are they scratch built, recovered ARF or conversions? I know some are ARFs like the Voodoo and EZ Dago, but I'd sure like to hear some details on how they did the others. Anyone know?

World Models makes both a fiberglass fuse and a wood fuse.  Many of the guys take the wood version, dismiss the bubble canopy in favor of  a small canopy that has the shape (or a least a close approximation of the shape) of the canopy of the full-scale model they are replicating.  Then they make a small, cut-down turtle deck from balsa or foam blocks.   They carve and sand to shape, glue everything down, recover/paint/etc., and they now have a racer that is a little different than the stock Mustang.  Some will slightly modify tail surfaces, cut a bay out of each wing panel, redesign wings completely, add fillets, &/or more.  It just depends on how far they each want to take it.

Most tend to start out life as noted and some build new wings, etc to suit what they are doing. My Miss Ashley II was scratch built off of three views.

Thanks for the info. I saw a thread awhile back talking about modifying the WM Mustang. Do you know where they get the canopy? I'm guessing the Voodoo kit or home made. Also, where do they get the decals? Custom made or off the shelf?

This is one popular source for the graphics that many use:

http://www.callie-graphics.com/airplanes.php

Some of the of the guys I've talked to about their graphics seem to "know a friend" with a vinyl cutter that makes them for them.  Occasionally, you might find a local sign shop can cut them from vinyl for you.

Personally, I make my own decals using a graphics program, decal paper available from Bell Inc., and my inkjet printer.  Below is an example of a nose-art graphic I made for my father-in-law.  He wanted to model the P-47D called, "Peg O'My Heart" as a tribute to his new wife.  I painted the outline and lettering by hand and took a picture of it.  I imported the picture into a graphics program (Corel Photohouse) and sized it to scale.  As a surprise for him, I had his wife, Peg, put on lipstick and kiss some paper.  I scanned these images, resized them much smaller, and inserted them into the image of the outline of the lettering, etc., in the scale locations, and printed out the decal . . . along with stars and bars and other necessary markings to complete the plane being modeled.  Now my father-in-law had scale nose-art just like in the pictures and documentation of the scale plane, but with a personal touch . . . not only was he able to dedicate the plane to his new wife, but he was surprised to find out that the lipstick kisses that mimicked the full-scale plane's, were actually his wife's kisses!  Sometimes doing it yourself is more fun and adds a personal touch that makes it worth the extra trouble.

For my Mustang I used a Dago Red canopy. I carefully trimmed the canopy back so that I just had the clear portion. I then built a turtledeck to match the canopy.

In the interest of focusing back on "Warbird Racing" I submit for your enjoyment

And to see a really cool and bada$$ed plane watch this and listen to that beautiful radial engine sound.

Tom and Ollie,

Thanks for recording and posting my race. I believe that was my first heat in Gold. My motor ran fairly well in that heat but I ran wide in turn one almost every lap and wound up 4th.

Later in the day the air heated up and thinned out. Once that happened my motor started going rich in the air. I've come to the conclusion that it just can't turn any more RPM and is underpropped. I'm working on a solution. I'm hoping to have it worked out and ready for the Trashman or Morgan Hill race.

My pleasure, Chris!

Looking forward to seeing you at the next one.  I'll be sure to get more still shots and film of you, then.

Thanks for posting the points, I always like to compare who is doing what. I also see I have the highest number of BO in bronze. That is an area I am going to need to focus on if I want to stay in contention.
