tell that to the hundreds of people on here that do it every week. Kinkos assumes you have permission and they have disclaimers at their doors and copiers saying they arent responsible for copyrighted material.

Kinkos in my neck of the woods (DC area) will NOT scan or copy anything with out a release. I call Nick Jr and he fax me a release form to scan 1 of his plans for my personal use. I feel personally a lot better having done this.

By the way nice web site...

I can see it in your neck of the woods they dont wanna be having someone copy govt secrets but most of us dont have that problem.

I used to be a writer as i was in college to be a middle school lit and english teacher ( cant tell it from some of the typos hehe) but i learned copyright laws from doing stuff and sending to mags. also was plant manager at boat factory and most use other peoples designs for their basic design then alter and i learned there that you only have to change things 10% and not have any problems. I have a friend in california took an rc plane and just blew it up and for california laws as long as he blew it up at least 10% he was ok. so laws are there but they dont mean people cant copy things there is just an extent that they cant cross a certain line. like with plans you cant copy and sell them for profit but can copy for personal use ie scanning to cd or making a copy to cut up for parts or to build on.

What about the plans that have been already ( in my possession / older ) drawn and the people or individuals or companies are no where to be found, deceased, no wife to ask, on partner etc .etc....... What happens then

What happens when I sell the plans as a used set to someone

Or if I ask my neighbor to cut some pieces from the plans that I have or had copied, because he just got a new saw, how far do we go and at what cost, what cost to contact anyone if there are alive for there permission.

( Will all the attorneys please stand up.............)

I dont worry abt it it is just a hobby and designers all know we gonna copy them for one reason or another. the only time i would get worried is if you start selling the plans to make a profit. if you have an old set of plans you want to sell you are fine as you paid for them just reselling to get some of your investment back. But if you buy a set of plans then go have 20 copies made and start selling copies you better be getting your lawyer and wallet ready because you will be paying the designer back.

Be warned that All American will quote a lower dollar price with a quick turn-around date and here is the catch; They do not accept Credit Cards and hence when you send your money order they will tell you that the last kit just left and they have to cut a new kit (6-8 weeks). They pulled this on me last month. I suggest you stay with a cutter that does accept credit cards so that you can lock into a shipping date.
