Saw it at toledo, and spent some time with the Horizon dude. A rather nice but strange looking transmitter. I was going to go from my 9303 to the 12X, but might go with this. It has a neat feature, it allows you to go to the function list with out turnning the radio off. Wondered if anyone else has thoughts on this radio

I have had some unexplained occasional glitches with my 9303, one causing a crash, and whenever I fly my Top Flite B 25 the throttle settings are way off. So I am thinking of replacing the radio and getting the 9503 or 11X. Is the 11X worth the extra $200? Does it have throttle timer startup? Hard to get any info on this radio pre-release. Thanks.

The 11X manual has been released. It should answer all your questions. Check it out.

I called one of the techs at Horizon and this is what he knew so far about the 11X (as compared to the 9503): larger than 9503, programming is fairly different than it is on 9303/9503, 11X auto assigns switches by hitting switch, feels better in hand, no throttle timer startup on 11X as far as he knew, 30 model memory (vs 50 on 9503), no ratchet on throttle (was not sure if one would be included in box). 11X and 9503 both have backlit screens, both come with 9 channel receiver. He thought Horizon would have to release an 11 channel receiver to go with this radio. He said they would know more in 2-3 weeks. Release date is June 7.

Been using the 11X for the last 6 weeks here in Dubai and it has a look you either love or hate. Personally love it. The radio here is DSM "J", this is the Japanese standard that JR are hoping to thwart the use of cheaper brand Rx's, good point or bad, it's for you to decide.

Back to the radio, it feels great to use and all switches and trims fall easily to hand, that is apart from the sliders, one each side, on the back panel. For me, I preferred the slider position on 9XII but hey, take all sorts. Tried it out first in a fun fly plane (just in case) and all was well with the radio. It has 2 remote receivers on the 9 channel Rx with aerials at 90° to each other. At present it is installed in a Great Planes Reactor Bipe with an OS 61FX for power and really "feels" locked in. Perhaps this is due to the higher resolution. Like the backlit screen and ease of programming and being able to switch to th model setup without turning the radio off and again whist holding the "Enter" key. You can also create your own "Favourites" list, this is useful to have either mixes or rates in there as you then do not have to scroll the menus locating them.

I am very pleased with the radio and wish JR all the success as they roll out this radio in the major markets of the world.

That system was developed to comply with Japanese government regulations regarding RF devices which do not allow the the higher power output of the DSM2 systems in that country.

The fact that you have the "J" version probably has a lot more to do with distribution channels/systems than anything else but it may also be government regs.

It wasn't simply an attempt to thwart the use of cheaper brand rx's as all 2.4GHz systems use proprietary technology, just like the various PCM systems were proprietary.

Does this transmitter eliminate the need for Matchboxes?
