A 91fx is more like 24 oz's with the stock muffler.

I guess if OS wont figure out the problem with the remote needle valve issue, then someone else should. I thought thats what everyone was trying to do here. I think the thread should stay open.

Since there is no reply in the manufactures forum from beto9 's thread, we have to do this ourselves-KEEP IT OPEN. If O.S. can't address the problem, we, as a collective have to do it or else we have $300.00Can PAPERWEIGHTS.
This is my first O.S. engine, and I am not impressed. I will not think of O.S. as a "Premium Brand" anymore. There are many manufacturers out there that can do the job(out of the box)-CHEAPER.

I have not used TT or Webra, but they are also using remote needle valves. Do these engines have bubbling issues as well ? If not, then what is the difference between them and OS ?

I have the 46 FX and it is fine. I run TT but it has the needle in the carb, as does my webra. I have to think it is just the 91 that is having this problem. I just ordered two more 46 FX engines for a twin I am building. I hope they run as good as the one I have.

Sure wish that 91 FX worked. It would be a great engine. I just don't trust it any more. I bought two and was going to put them in my super duellist. I have one new in the box I will never run. Trying to decide what to do with it. I don't want to go through all the sending it back and forth if it does the same thing. Just a bit gun shy now on it.

No, actually, I have a 46 FX and it runs great, so I am hoping the other two do too. That will over power the plane I am bashing into a twin, and they will work good on my DC 3 as well. I didn't even look at the 50. Should have probably, but didn't.

I had the same type problem on an aeroworks 540 and had to use a perry fuel punp to get it running steady, It worked!

I see that this post is old but did you get your OS 91FX to run? I have several and they are all great, never die etc... I did however have a problem with one, it was upside down. Is yours upside down? I have no majic answers but I could not make mine run upside down and all other OS FX motors are perfect(for me) Mike

Don't know what it was mike, but mine, and 2 other friends had the same problem. OS took mine and worked a deal with me on other engines, and I sold the second one I bought without trying it. Didn't want to go through it again. One of my friends tried the second one after OS rebuilt the first and it didn't work, but the new one does the same thing. They are mounted upright. Don't know what the deal is. bummer, it would have been the perfect engine for many of my planes. Haven't decided what I am going to do next. I was hoping OS would come out with a good fix, like putting the needle back in the carb where it belongs. I am gunshy on them right now. I won't buy another one with remote needle unless I absolutly have to. The 46 FX has the same type setup and seems to run ok, but I don't like the rear needle. It is unfortunate that they think everyone should run the needle there. I believe it gives some a false sense of security. I don't believe it is any safer. If a bonehead is going to stick his fingers in the prop, he is still going to do it with the rear needle. I really hate trying to plumb it back there and fill the tank.

Glad yours work well. They would be a perfect engine for many planes. I bought two when I saw them, but unfortunately, this happened.

I sure like the way OS handled the situation though. They are first class!

My 91 is running fantastic...the only issue's I have are the heat and the vibration, but all my other single cyl. 2 strokes vibrate to some degree also but just not as bad as the O.S. 91FX.
I did an extra long break in on a test stand(1gallon) and never saw bubbles so I figured once in the plane it would bubble like crazy...guess I got lucky...no bubbles at all in either line coming from the tank ot to the carb. I am also using medium fuel line and no pump. I am using Omega 15% fuel and an APC 13/8 prop and it is very strong with this combp...guess I got lucky again.

I tried that too, even went to the K&B remote needle, same thing though. It wouldn't run once it got in the air.

Really strange. A friend is trying to pump his. We will see how that works. At least it is an option.

Gentlemen,

Here is another potential fix for the 91 F X. Some of the pattern Flyers on other Web sites have suggested that this engine is over compressed. They are installing a second cylinder head gasket to act as a shim under the head. They claim there is detonation causing excessive vibration.

I've found the remote needle valve fix solved my problems and my engine runs flawlessly.
