Telemaster 40. sick of elastics. Decide to do bolt on converstion. Think about it for a while, come up with good way to do it and spend a few nights getting it done.

Took patch of covering off front bottom of wing under the spar and epoxy a block that has a "v" to match the dihedral. two dowels stick forward from the block and mate to a hardwood plate that spans the wing saddle inside the fuse. Hardwood plate at the back for the nylon bolts to thread into. Worked great and looked very good!

3 or 4 flights, last circuit of the day, 200 or so feet up on downwind and the wing comes off just as neat as can be. The fuse darts in from that height with a nice spiral motion and the wing flutters (big wing) gently and lands in a 10 ft bush.

I take the death march out to where it is.....not forest but scrub etc. thinking about what I will find and am thrilled to find that the fuse has a clean break beteen the wing saddle and the tail and that is all the damage. FROM 200 ft !! even the firewall and engine are fine.

What happened: epoxy does not stick well to fiberglass cloth so the wing block just popped of like it had a release agent on it, the front of the wing lifted and the trailing edge of the wing broke at the bolts between the flaps and the glass wrap peeled off the top. releasing the wing.

Reglassed the wing (with a little extra for the block :-) splinted the fuse and its good as new.

Sometimes its amazing how many pieces there are....sometimes its amazing how few there are.
