recently I talked to http://ramoser.de who make adjustable props for electrics. They upgraded their production line with bigger props, til now only for electrics. BUT they test the props for use in combustion engines and do believe to have some results in July. Some of the smaller diameters are already allowed for combustion use.
The system is similar to the soloprop system, aluminium hub with separate blades. 2 - 4 blades, scale blade shape.
Since there is a lack of scale props with suitable dimensions on the market I guess this are good news

I will be looking forward to hearing about some 18 to 20 inch diamiter 2 and 3 blade props from them . Adjustable pitch sounds like a great idea for our RCV engines .

Status: offline 		Just seen that for now the info is only on the german page. See "Propellergröße 16 D" which means propsize 16 D. Pitch range from 6 - 25 inch, propsize from 16,2 - 22,6 inch.

Status: offline 		I've also been keeping an eye out on those guys to produce props for IC engines. It's always good to have more options for scale props available for the RCV SP line of engines.

This is my custom made 1/8-scale hub with 18" 3-blades, reverse engineered from the original 1/5-scale Soloprop hub...



Here's a closer look...


I wanted to make only one hub. I ended up making 15 hubs and sold them all. Soloprop is waiting for me to call them back regarding the design, but I'm finding it hard to make time now that a new-born baby has turned my life up-side down.

Status: offline 		Just visited the VarioProp website and it looks like they are done testing. According to their site, we are good to go on at least some of the blades for gas (and I assume glow) engines. I personally am interested in the 3-blade 16D hub with the 16.6" blades (good up to 6500 RPM on gas) for the RCV 60SP. However, I'm having trouble figuring out what I need to make it fit the shaft on this engine. Can anyone else figure out from the VarioProp website what would be needed? I also want to use the scale spinner dome.

Status: offline 		From what I can see, one would need the hub, blades, 5/16x24 prop nut, and spinner cap. All that totals around $136 US. Not a bad price for a scale prop! I may have to have one also. I like the sound of those 7 Euro blades too. At $30.50 each, the SoloProp blades are pretty pricey.

Status: offline 		Received my 2-blade hub today, a spinner nut for the 120SP together with a pair of 19,9 inch and a pair of 17,9 inch SG blades. Quality is excellent, did not weigh yet but its low. The parts go together easily. I found that the crank is too long for the spinner nut (or the spinner nut too short), when the spinner nut is screwed fully in there are 10mm way to go to the prop. Contacted Mr. Ramoser, he offered to make a centering sleeve so I can get rid of the spinner nut (which is a heavy part) and use the original RCV screws for mounting the prop. As an alternative I think about removing the blunt end of the spinner nut so it can be screwed farther. There is no corrugation, neither on the rear nor on the front side of the blade hub, so I think I prefer the original lock nut.

Status: offline 		Today I made the first test runs. As planned I removed the originally prop nut and replaced it by the centering sleeve. Before mounting I balanced the prop and found it well balanced - no surprise, since the hub is CNC milled and the blades have the same weight. Well, the prop turned, , tracking of the blades is perfect. As expected the hub gets pretty hot, after a few minutes run you cannot touch it anymore. Since I have used GFK propellers before (Biela) I do not expect any problems. Nevetheless I will ask Mr. Ramoser about his opinion. Next step ist to adjust the correct pitch, that will need some test flights. The blades are very thin, similar to APC, so I hope for high rpms and maybe slightly more pitch than the APC provide.
Below some pics of the original setup with spinner nut, which turned out to be too short for the crank of the RCV.
Next is the mounted prop with centering sleeve and the RCV lock nut.
And last is a pic of the blade, seen from the side. The tips of the blades are bent forward, for whatever reason.

The weight of the blades+hub is 104 gramms. Togehter with the prop nut its a 140 gramms, another reason to skip the prop nut.

So what do you guys think about aluminium propeller blades? Beside the shiny and very scale look I do believe it would perfectly aid cooling of the RCV.

Just another source for a scale prop for the RCV SP series engines. I ordered a 16X8 and a 18X10! These are very wide and semi-scale to that of a Hamilton Standard prop, found on the P51 (Note, not all P51 had Hamilton Standard Props) Now which would you think would the better of the size???

I just bought the VarioProp 16D 3-blade hub with 18.6" round tip blades for my TF Corsair. I used a slightly different method of marrying the hub to my 120SP. I designed a spacer to fit behind the hub, with a 12mm dia. flange to fit into the back of the hub. The setup works great. I set the pitch at 12" and ground tested it today. The 120SP turns the prop at 4660 rpm. As with your hub, mine got pretty hot but the blades were fine. I believe we've found a winner here and this hub looks great!

Status: offline 		I like the idea of the aluminum spacer behind the hub. Adds just a little bit more heat disipation and moves the blades just a bit farther from the glow plug.
