Installing the ESC, going over placement, a little bit of heat shrink, and some capacitors!  Action packed indeed!

Check out the latest installment.  Some VERY exciting stuff in this one.  Let's just say that I should be able to do some taxi tests tomorrow weather permitting. :-)

Ok, I got a chance to taxi today!  Check out the video to see.

I do have a small issue with the wheels not tracking.  The grub screws to keep the wheels pointed correctly don't seem to keep them in place.  I think I'll either need to get inside and file a flat spot, or maybe make a hole and tap it?… I'll figure it out.  Hopefully nothing too in depth.

I tried again the flying field today and the brakes work fine. I think I like the solid braking better than the "anti-lock."

Dave at the flying field helped me get my radio programmed so that the brakes are activated when I put in about 40%-50% down elevator. I just couldn't get it to activate. It turned out all that was to crank up the sub trim some.

While testing the brakes we noticed it started listing to one side. I thought that was strange. When we brought it back to the bench we noticed one of the bolts that attaches the gear to the bulkhead was gone! Doh! I checked the other bolt and it was loose as well. I was planning on going through and applying loctite to everything later, but maybe sooner than later is better
We found the bolt on the runway and put it back in.

One last "that sorta sucks" moment was when I wanted to test the non anti-lock braking. The balsa block I have holding the pushrod tube in place for the nose steering busted loose from the fuselage. I'll make another with some ply and hysol in place.

It's hot and miserable so I'm not sure how much progress I'll make this weekend.

Here's the completed aileron torque rod assemblies and some aileron movie' action.

Note: Be sure when you install the brass tubes on the inside that they do not protrude past the wooden servo tray… I had one that had about 1/8" protrusion and it made it so that I could not put on the aileron because none of the hinges would line up.  I had to grind it down to make it work.

Working on finalizing the ailerons.  I had to add caps to the ends to cover the hole I had to make to get to the torque rod "sleeve" that fell inside.  I only need to glass the one aileron since I did the other a looooong time ago.

Continuing finishing the ailerons.  Here is a glassing video for those of you interested.  I didn't speed anything up so those interested can see the process from start to finish and the technique.

Yeah,

You're supposed to adjust the wheels to your desired toe-in and grind a flat spot on the top of the wire to set it. Glad you did that.

Yeah, I finally figured it out... someone else also posted that the grub screw was at the top, not the bottom... doh!  It was no wonder I couldn't get them to stay put!

Sorry guys, I couldn't help it… I had to try out those dry transfers from aeroloft… and I love those things! They were a little tough around the curved surface and I had to work out some wrinkles, but man does it look good! I'll make a video next time I swear! (The wings are pretty close to being ready to paint, so it won't be long&hellip

Here's part 3 of episode #77.  This one's packed full of glass weave filling dry transfer scratching' mayhem!

Here's the last of the aileron finishing.  I have to say I really think the bondo spot putty and acetone brush on technique to fill the weave is the way to go.  It sands so easy and gives a good finish.  I also think it saves on weight.

Hi,

Nice finished product. Have you ever tried thinning the resin and brushing it through the cloth with a paint brush? I cut Z-poxy 60/40 with denatured alcohol (more alcohol than resin). I lay the cloth onto the part and brush the mixture straight through. It's considerably faster if you ever want to give it a try. I can get both sides of all of the wood surfaces on this F-16 glassed in about 2.5 hours on a sunny day, and one of those hours is just for drying time.

Time to start prepping the missile rails for paint. I primed them and am in the process of eliminating the seam with some bondo spot putty.
Something tells me these would look much sweeter with some missiles attached!

Can anyone provide a link to some good walkarounds or decal placement for all the "no steps" and "dangers" and whatnot?  If anyone has some pics of the Fort Smith Alabama ANG Razorbacks that would be awesome.  It is proving to be much more difficult than I thought it would.

I have tried that, it works good.  I was too lazy to go down to the garage to get the denatured alcohol .  Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll do that for sure when I do my next one on all surfaces, it does go much faster.
