Don't worry about the additional nose weight. It'll fly great! Try flying one that needed 2 pounds nose weight but the owner didn't want the plane to be heavy. THAT was an exciting flight! Can't believe I got it back on the ground in one piece.

Hi Ty, it would be great if you could make a new scale spinner for the ESM Spitfire Mk IX.
I need an aluminum scale spinner for a 4-blade Solo propeller.
Let us know: what do you think about eMachineShop ?

Best regards

If Ty comes up with a new spinner I would be in have grown use to the old one though! Ty you need to do a run of cones only as well, so those of us who have your old one can use the same back plate

Hey Guys,
Sorry but I won't be doing any more spinners. They last couple runs of spinners i have had I just had too many substandard domes ( wrong shape or blemishes). I could hardly even break even. email VQ Warbirds about spinner for the 50cc Spitfire. i think there are some available now..

Thanks Ty

Hi guys, I've done some searches, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for: a scale spinner[1], or an engineering drawing.

FYI: If you have a drawing (file format: DXF), eMachineShop can create a CAD drawing of your part for $20 (see also eMachineShop - Price for CAD Drawing).

Regards

Hey guy,
I looked into having a scale spinner from a machine shop that always did my backplates at a very reasonable price. They were priced making them from bar stock Like tru turn. They came back at a price of $145 each with a minimum of 20 and a $250 setup fee.. That would be $157 each my cost.. The problem with emachine I bet your cost would be around $200 for one. If not $200 plus setup fee....

Ty

Don't make a bet just for the sake of betting... I suggest you give them a try and see for yourself.

You manage to post the largest and most magnificent pictures.

May I ask where you came up with that tailwheel assembly?

For the tail wheel, I just covered balsa and aliminium sticker.

But I made the wheel support and welded brass.

Congradulations I like hearing about sucessful maidens. Did your engine run well with no overheating issues? What size prop are you using? Where is your cg? How much ballest did you need?
Sorry about all the questions just trying to put some sense to some niggles I still have although I am still mostly happy I am thinking the factory cg is a bit far forward I am a little nose heavy at 153mm I have to hold quite a bit of up inverted.
Hope the arm has recovered well.
Chris

the engine does not heat! It must direct the air towards the engine Aillet. The propeller is a Xoar 22x10 and it is very suitable.
The CG is 153 mm with 1.350 kg of lead or 3 pounds. in the nose. The Spitfire does not pass on the nose during taxiing and landing is very use.The stall is zero.

Thank you benoit

I am courious as to 1.3 kg of ballest as I could only achieve 153mm cg with 2 kg of lead my flight batteries are right behind the firewall. It is a fraction nose heavy as I perferr nose heavy on a maidenI will pull it back a bit and see what happens. Engine issues with the cowl on is still my biggest issue runs great till the cowl goes on the starts to run rough after 6 or 7 minutes I have modded the baffle system and have stopped the deadsticks it just runs rough now after a while! My install is the same as yours but have been running a 23x8 prop which i also think loads the engine too much! anyhow things are getting better and it is a great thing to fly it is not all bad

Cheers Chris

Thank you, I bought a CF spinner on the bay (happychoice is the seller) and then painted it. I also bought a 4 blade :-)
Benoit, your work is wonderful quality. Nice to see.
May I ask what paint you used for your weathering?

Hi
Had to dig deep to find this thread its been awhile there must be some good flying updated reports. or some build threads about to happen or happening
dangle me a carrot give me a spitfire fix. Andrew from NZ how is yours shaping up? Flying yet?
The weather has been very unkind to me although I have had the odd fly I havent been able to fly the Spitty as it is too heavy for the ground conditions I feel my cooling issues should be sorted, am busting a butt to fly!!

Mine is sold, worst flying warbird ever.

Felt sluggish like nothing else airborne and touchy as hell in slowspeed configuration. I did change the CG from 2cm infront of recomended and 2 cm aft of recomended.

Ordered the new TF P40 and it is soon ready for maiden.

Sorry to hear your report I have none of those complants I can only say it flies great my issue is the cooling. The build quallity is sometimes suspect on some of these China kits baybe you had a bent one! I hope that your p40 is a step up for you.

I'd say do it! The heavier the motor in there the better. The tail of this model will never see lead no matter what you get in there. Heck i think if you stuck a twin on the front you'll still be adding noseweight when you're done. This is an O.S. GT55 heavier than DLE or DA and I still had to throw on a crown of lead.
