I've not really started yet, but looking ahead at the cylinder mount, it seems that there is not alot of glueing surface between the mount and the plane. There is the flange at the front and the one former that the cylinder goes through. I realize the design is working, Stoat has really proved its strength with the DLE 111. It just looks like it needs more points of contact to the fuse, or am I missing something? Mine is really not that tight of a fit going through the front of the fuse and once I cut on that former, there may be less contact there.

I have not decided on retracts yet. I want to go with electrics but I don't want ESM. I'm considering the Robarts.

Hill,

Go to dreamworksrc.com and buy some hysol. The stuff will bond and be stronger than anything in the plane. You can use it on the engine mount tube and I would use it anywhere you see a gap in the bulks heads, formers or anyplace you can reinforce. The stuff gives you long workng time and holds a bead, but once its hard, grinders have a hard time removing it. It's the stuff we use on building jets. If you are staying with the rudder / elevator cable system, I suggest you invest in a thicker cables. just my 2 cents and looking forward to your progress.

Thanks for the tip. I was at the Ga Jets Fly in yesterday and Dreamworks had a huge trailer set-up there. I wish I had known, I could have got it with no shipping. I will try hysol. I plan on using a pushrod for the elevator. I'll probably stay with pull-pull on the rudder. You're right, those factory cables look weak.

I got some great pics at the Ga Jet fly in! I'm a member there but I don't fly jets. They allow prop guys membership as well.

I may go back out early today and see if Dreamworks is still there.

Thanks for the link Kwik.

It looks to me like placement and drilling for the wing dowels will be a challenge.

If you have the luck to actually inspect what dreamworks has first hand, be sure to get a couple of these;

http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/air-gauge-p-807.html

They are so cute that I just had to have them in all my planes.

And, I havent invested in any of these yet, but it surely will replace a lot of components;

(Servo, valve and push-rod)

Stoat,

I've looked through the thread and I can't find a picture of the inside of your completed fuse. The next time you have your plane out, it would be a huge help if you could please snap a photo of the inside of your fuse, particularly a view towards the nose.

Remember...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Thanks alot!

If you use the template spar they give you it actually lines up quite well.  Just think about the angle of your hole you drill( make sure its in same plane as outboard wing section

I was talking about the dowels going into the bulkhead. I'm not sure what template spar you're referring to.

Thanks for taking time to post a picture. All the views I can get help. I'm going to use the cylinder. I was thinking about shoving some weight up into the back of the cylinder. That would be less that I had to mount in the cowl.

Oh!  my apologies.  Right,   the dowels to hold the leading edge of the wing into the fuselage.   I drilled the two holes in the bukhead where I wanted them, then placed the wing on the fuse.  Put my hand with a marker in thru the nose of fuse and made the mark thru the holes I drilled.  Removed the wing and drilled where the marks were.  Make sense?

You drilled the holes, then got the wings where you wanted them and then marked them.

Strength and ballast.  Still ended up with over 3/1/2 lbs in cowl so if you can load up that mount tube , that would be advantageous.  Only problem is how much do you put in and once it is secured into nose of fuse how do you get to it to add or delete weight?

I was thinking put two lbs in it. That way I know that I'm still going to need more for the cowl. I think you could probably get far enough in the build to figure about what you are going to need on the nose and still be able to secure some weight in the cylinder. It would be a little less weight that you would have to secure in the cowl.

How did you guys attach the linkage to the flaps? That little copper thing looks weak.

Its not that the brass is that weak but the way tey have you insert it into the leading eadge of the flap thats the weak link.  Mine aleady failed.  I ended up drilling out a large enough hole to put a brass threaded insert into the edge o of the flap.  Then I could you loctite and screw the brass pin into the insert.  Seems to be very secure.  The flap is not under a lot of air force but it is an awkward angle of operation

i don't know what little copper thing you guys are talking about for the flaps? I have an earlier gen Corsair with the aluminum wing tubes. I posted a picture back on page 47 showing my flaps and how I kept the linkage internal.

Yours looks good. I can't tell from the picture, what is that piece that you glued into the flap to connect the linkage to? I was thinking of glueing a ball link in the flap, at the proper depth.

This is the copper piece that the instructions say to use. I'm thinking glue the ball link with a piece of 4-40, into the flap, up to the eye.

There is very little substance to glue anything into the leading edge of the flap.  Once you drill a hole you will see its hollow.  Thats why I glued and inserted basically a metal threaded anchor screw( like you would use when trying to get a screw to hold in sheetrock). Initially  I just glued mine in like you are saying and they eventually weakened and pulled out

Oh, I threw those flimsy ass parts away. Again, if you go to dreamworks website, I used type B airpower control horns, drilled 3- 1/8" holes in the tab side that gets hysoled to the flap, aileron, elevator for more secure strength. I filed the tab part that goes in the flap to get a better leverage angle without compromising the flap. If you look at my other control surfaces, I used the same control horns and hysoled them all into place. I have no hardware sticking through the top of my control surfaces. I can send you close up pictures if you need them.
