Hi the windshield is the easiest thing .Go to LHS and buy the plastic unless you have a better supplier I will try and scan the template (it is only for half the windshield). So you draw out one half then flip it over and draw the other half on some thin stiff cardboard. You then cut out the plastic. You will still need to trim this till it fits though.

I wondered across this thread form google. I built the Swick Taylorcraft for MA News a few years back. I must have 10 gals of fuel through the plane. Out of a doz planes this is my most enjoyable plane. I did not get into details during th build, I just wanted to fly 1/4 scale. It is powered by a st2000, enough power but could use more for the stunts. I had a gps inside and on calm day with no large dives I had a peak speed of 88 mpg.

Well, as indicated ago, the leaves are indeed falling all around and my mind is returning to my basement projects. The T-Craft in particular...
Happily I didnt have any crashes this summer and no repair work associated with them. But my basement is a mess and I'm going to commit this weekend to getting it back in order. I need to make a balsa order to Lone Star and get stocked up on essentials. Still havent purchased the covering and dope from Aircraft Spruce but intend to for the cost savings.
Once things get put back together and I begin to once again work on the T-Craft I'll post some pics. It's still where I left it last spring waiting for me...

I have got a couple of summers flying time on mine and still very happy with everything. Its a real fun plane to fly and very aerobatic (for a Taylorcraft). Am also very happy with the ZDZ 40, lots of power. This was a very enjoyable build and stable flyer.

A very nice thread. It is unusual for me to follow one from beginning to end, but this one was very interesting, and quite informative. Thanks guys!

I have been looking into building a large scale T-Craft for quite a while, and never heard of the Swick plans. I have been looking at Hostetler, but now seeing
the Swick, I am even more confused! LOL Good confused, as it looks like a nice build. Has anyone had any builds using the Hostetler plans, (any model), who has also
built the Swick T-Craft? Just wondering what comparisons you might have between the 2 designers.

One other note, if you haven't heard, Lone Star Models facility just burned down the day before Thanksgiving. I live about 75 miles away, and was shocked to hear it on the
nightly TV news, as I had just went to Lone Star that morning, and hand selected my order for my 1st winter project! Guess I should have bought a lot more, as this is going to hurt the balsa market this year. Was a sad bit of news.

Did you have a look at Bob Nelitz Swick T-craft? That's a 112" beauty. I got the plans but didn't have the engine big enough to go in so I scaled them down to 90" in the local printing shop. Now I'm half way through building.

Hi Guess I am going to have to dust of my Swick T -craft and get back to building. Scott I would like to inform you these aren't Swick Plans They are plans of a Swick T-Craft. Mike Swick evidently would take a full size T-craft and take it back to its bare bones, clip the wings ,put in the glass roof,Etc etc. The plans if not mistaken are from a Jim Simpson.I am sorry to hear about Lone Star even though I never bought from there I have heard of many like yourself that have. My real concern would be in hoping they rebuild.
Bob Nelitz, well if this is the person who I think it is I used to live maybe 10 miles from him. I ran into him at North America s Largest Scale Funfly,Held In KW Ontario, Canada (KW meaning Kitchener & Waterloo(KW Flying Dutchmen)) He is or was ranked as one of the worlds top three master builders. At the time I met him he had a third scale Super Cub you could even read the radio numbers inside of the cockpit and the seat belts worked. This plane looked like it had just been finished but he clamed over 25 flights on it

Ok, then does anyone have any comparisons between the Hostetler designed plans, and the Simpson designed Swick T-Craft? There are differences cause the
original aircraft modeled after, however, what I am asking is if anyone has experience in both designers, and any comparisons between the 2 as far as who might
design a better structure. Is one easier to build than the other, etc.

Lone Star supplied a lot of major name wood suppliers, name brand kits, and kit cutters. And this loss in supply is going to impact the industry in a negative way. Hopefully they will rebuild, however, in the mean time we are all going to feel a pinch. They might have serviced your supplier.

Hi again Scott well others too. I have no idea what the hosteiler plans are like but the simpson plans are pretty straight forward. As long as you can cut out the pieces as per the plans and follow the instructions in reasonable order you won't have any problem with this build. I believe one of the regulars to this thread this was his first scatch build . He has put pictures of it on here it is red and black. Looks like a fine build to me Mike

Sounds good to me. Looks like a major stick build, haven't done one of those in ages, but looks fun as well. I saw the red & black one, and that is a very nice
build. Certainly looks better than a first time scratch build! Nice Job! Anyway, thanks for the input, gonna have to make a decision soon. My first build of the
season, I have the parts cut already, for 2 planes. They will be done fairly soon, (simple trainers for Xmas Gifts), next one is for me!

Sir, my name is rick and i have been given a crashed taylorcraft. i have been repairing it without any plans or other planes to measure/copy. i have fallen in love with it and look foward to flying her. the person that gave her to me said something about sebring, fl. but he cant remember for shure. her wing span is right at 9'. the fuse was cream on top and red bottom. i'm trying to think of things that may give you some clues as to if it is possibly one of those planes in this thread. during repairs i sanded through several different paint colors (in the frame work) outer layer was bright orange. then i think dark blue and light green. i will try to have other dimentions ready next time i post. i would be interested in plans to compare or to build one from the start. repairing someone elses work is tough. it does show several older repairs and the last (i guess) one was done with what i beleive to be called gorrilla glue. it has made an terrible mess. any help is appreciated. thanks ricky. 954-240-2999

I was unaware of Lone Star's demise. A loss to be sure. I'm sure the competition will adjust their prices accordingly. Should have made my order when I had the chance....
