so i thought i might try and liven things up a little....
wanted to see if my rcmk twin would fit into my tunnel????
twin engine is fitted with an over drive gearbox ..three sets of ratio's to test!!
weekend of playing in shed and its ready for first run, but will have to wait a few weeks
before it can get wet..

I am geting back into  gas F1 boating.  I have a OB hull that i run some times,and have just brought two hulls to build as inboard. One for me and one for my 12 year old son.  I believe that the hulls are modified DPI huls. Both hulls have been run as inboard and then changed to OB.
Both hulls have had the transoms changed for the out boards.
I have removed these and am thinking do I make it a straight transom, or extend the transom past the rear of the sponsons?
what are peoples recomondations? and how far would I extend.

Herewith some pics of how I did it with my glassfiber copy.
As you can see I had to reinforce both the transom and the bulkhead (for outboard use) afterwards.

According to Jerry Dunlap, one of the designers, the DPI is not suitable for the gas power though, see post #4 here

Thats the type of advise I am lookng for.
The red and blue hulls will be inboard so mabey easier to keep on the water?
Is there any benifit to extending the hull for inboard power?  They were both inset to where you see I have cut them to.

Main reason I did it was to have a more scale look.
Another advantage was that an offset transom brings the prop further back and thus makes the prop lift momentum bigger.
I also fiigured that shortening the boat afterwards would be easier than lengthening ?

Just thinking, if these hulls trap to much ai,r do they need  lift further to the rear, or is that going to make the
problem worse?

Status: offline 		Once mine is near topend the dynamical CG seems to be OK.
Only problem is getting there, especially with a too fast accelerating propeller.
My experience (with an outboard) is that a 6717/3 seems to be big enough to prevent most porpoising and thus blowing over during acceleration.

Status: offline 		 Hi the black outboard hull was made by grh hobbys but the owner has pased on and the moulds seem to have been pased around a lot since
And I don't know who has them now sorry.  I don't think it's the best hull anyway.  The two I am working on now I got off trade me.
The ones Mark jorden builds look good, I believe they are around $750.00 aus.   I was thinking about them myself untill these two came up

Status: offline 		Mark Jordan hulls are very good and well built, and I am currently running one of them and another club member also has one too.

We are both very happy with them and mine is getting better and better each time out. I have also found that I keep coming back to a 6717/3 prop, as its the best so far.

We build a GAS F1 INBOARD - US $700 (including the shipping to Aus) - colour deck - white hull.

It has been successfully tested/raced with various drive units - from the standard inline rudder system - standard strut and rudder - our Camber out drive.

Supplied - bonded and trimmed - transom/sponson reinforcement fitted - flotation installed - mounting brackets supplied.



We only still manufacture our ENIGMA CAMBER OUTBOARD DRIVE - ( No longer the Inboard drive)

I'm doing a lot of reading, and sometimes a little skimming to try and find where to buy an inboard hull. Am I missing something, somewhere? I like Dominic's Hulls, and Latif's (Body Guard) Hulls, but I can't find anything else about purchasing one. I tried youngz performance craft, but I only see info on an outboard leg.

I would be interested in a used hull, that is built for an inboard, that may be in need of some re-finishing.

I'm located in California, so that may be an issue getting something from out of the U.S.

I actually thought about making a foam plug, but really don't want to invest that much time into it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try pm'ing both YPC or BODY GUARD, you will have much better luck that way. Dom should have hulls already made and chat to him about the inboard leg. Not sure what the shipping will be like price wise but they do ship over seas. The YPC site has not been updated in a long time and I always forget to ask Dom about this. I have read good reviews that Dom sent me about his inboard leg- there are a few in the States now being run. There are a couple of companies in the states making gas hulls, but they are for OB as far as I know. I too am setting up an inboard on the side-not my main focus at the moment but should be fun when done. The inboards throw up a bigger rooster tail than the outboards which does it for me. One day I will build or buy a rigger for the ultimate rooster tail!!

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if you or anyone else has had experience taking an OB tunnel and converting it to inboard. I see the Zipplits Illusion Tunnel is set up for OB. Besides re-working the inside of the hull (by adding stringers, etc..) I wonder if this is a viable endeavor, or should I just try and find a purpose built inboard.
