So, does anyone have any good tips on lexan / ABS plastic repair?  I got my ASM B-17 in the mail the other day and it's damaged, the canopy has a long crack, the fuse has some cracks.  I bought it from a guy on eBay for a steal, so I can't complain too much.  How about spare parts?  Does Tom have any at VQ?  I didn't see any on the website.

Mike, have you tried with the USA importer, Hobby People?

I think you should be able to put some fiberglass inside the fuse for repair.

Ty has a mold for some of the turrets and nose parts...

Who's running Quadsync on this plane?  Anyone?  How's it working for you?  I thought I saw on some post somewhere that you had one, speedracer....

I'm trying to get a quadsync or perhaps 2 twinsyncs on my B-17 when I get home next month.

I do have one. Glow drivers that go with it too. I lost interest in mine. Nice gadget. For me, it just more work. I'm very good with nitro motors and I have mine mechanically synched within a 100 rpms on all four. It takes time and a little skill but do-able. Saito 62's with cut off pipes.

Mine is installed and on a switch for on and off. I turn it on sometimes but can't tell the difference because I'm so close. I put it on as a safty devise in case of a motor failure. 50+ flights without a flame out?? I took the glow drivers off real fast. The messed up the way I tune motors so they had to go.

Id be willing to sell mine with the drivers.

LMK.

Weather here is going to be perfect tomorrow. SHE IS ON THE CHARGER NOW!!!!

Here is a photo of little brother on the table.

So.. I finally started doing mine (work , family and other RC projects got in the way )

I'm basically following the recommendations in this thread, with some minor mods. I will start posting some of them.

For the motor mounting, I added some reinforcement as i though my 6-32 long screws were too flexible..

I wanted sound system. Went with the Model Solutions one. i though it was easier to implement that the Benedini one.

So, cutting into the wing to locate the speakers was a little unnerving. At the end it was pretty straightforward. I added some corners to mount the speakers and a "u-shaped reinforcement for one of the ribs. I still need to cut holes, and cover them with a painted mesh, in the wing cover.
I'm using the Visaton R10, two 4 ohm speakers in series.

I a slow worker, but expect to continue to post as I progress.

Nice placement of the speakers. Are you going to use the belly pan as the grill?

I flew a couple times this weekend. #3 motor was idleing a bit fast when I got to the field. I just reached in the nacelle from below and adjusted it. I went to fly again and it was at a different idle again. A little aggitated and adjusted it again and flew again. Great flights and nice landings. When I got home I wanted to find out what was up and looked at the motor again. It wouldnt start which was strange. I grabed the high end needle and I was loose? Wierd? Took off the cowling and was shocked to find the carborator was completely off the engine. I have no idea how it was running at the end of the flight.

YIKES!!!!!

She is pulled from the rotation until all of the nacelles have been rebuilt. I was way past due for a tear down.

SR

Yes. I will cut holes and cover them wth a painted mesh. I will probably have to reinforce it, as the speakers width is about the same as the pan.

Hit a snag, as one of the main gears cylinder was leaking. The defect is internal, as it leaks thrum the nipple. The cylinder ends are press fit and glued, so no internal examination or fix is possible.
I will try to fit some robart I have spare.

Just got the ASM Bi7G Friday, and I intend to use Hobby People
Magnum XL 52 RFS Blue R/C 4-Stroke Engine.

Has anyone flown thisplane with this engine?  The assembly manual recommends this engine, butit requires modification to the nacelle to get it to fit.

Any info?

Is this thread dead?  I just got my ASM B17 completed enough to check the C.G. It looks like it is going to require about 5 pounds of weight in the nose.  Does anyone who is flying one think this is normal?  The manual says it may require up to 3 pounds.

My post states I used 2# 13oz in a block at the very front of the plane.

What is your setup? Where are your pictures?

Speedracer,

I assume that is in addition to your battery.   I didn't take any pictures just trying to get an idea how much lead I would have to add.  All of the weight was in the very front of the nose.  Gear down, no fuel etc.  Balanced 8" behind leading edge of the wing at the fuselage.

Thanks for the reply.

Modeled after:

“Scheherazade”
4th Bomb Wing/3rd Air Division
447th Bomber Group
Rattlesden, England
Spring 1945

This is one of the more famous 447th aircraft, as it is one of three original 447th aircraft to survive the war and return to the United States. This particular B-17G was credited with 126 missions without a single loss or abort. It is one of the highest time mission B-17’s of WWII.

The aircraft’s nickname “Scheherazade” is named after a legendary Queen and storyteller of One Thousand and One Arabian Nights. The tale goes that every day the King would marry a new wife and have her disappear the next day. This was done in anger after having found his first wife had betrayed him. One day the King was introduced to Scheherazade. Scheherazade had collected thousands of books over the years and was a great story teller.

Scheherazade asked the King if she might tell a story during the long night. The King lay awake and listened with awe as Scheherazade told her first story. The night passed by and Scheherazade stopped in the middle of the story. The King asked her to finish, but Scheherazade said there was no time, as dawn was breaking. So, the King spared her life for one day to finish the story the next night. So the next night, Scheherazade finished the story, and then began a second, even more exciting tale which she again stopped halfway through. So the King again spared her life for one day to finish the second story. And so the King kept Scheherazade alive day by day, as he eagerly anticipated the finishing of last night's story.

At the end of one thousand and one nights, and one thousand stories, Scheherazade told the King that she had no more tales to tell him. During these one thousand and one nights, the King had fallen in love with Scheherazade, having made him a wiser and kinder man by Scheherazade and her tales, the King spared her life, and made her his Queen.

Captain Morgan, pilot of “Scheherazade” having read the story “One Thousand and One Arabian Nights” named the B-17 after Scheherazade in the hopes he too could be spared and return safely every evening from his bombing missions to marry a navy nurse he had met and fallen in love with.

Since “Scheherazade” was an early 1943 B-17G model, it was delivered in the standard Olive Drab and Camouflage Grey scheme. In 1944 newer B-17G models were no longer painted and had a bare aluminum finish. As the 4th Bomb Wing standardized their markings in 1944, the 447th Bomber Group adopted new B-17G’s in aluminum with yellow tails, wingtips and cowls, two green bands around the fuselage, and blue chevrons on the wing. This gave them a distinct color scheme.

“Scheherazade” having lasted so many missions was upgraded too during the summer of 1944 with the new standard colors and markings of the 447th. But, the old Olive Drab/Camouflage Grey colors remained part of the aircraft. A new tail gunner turret was added which was never painted as the new turrets were bare aluminum. “Scheherazade” was also overhauled with new engines and cowls. However, the cowls were left in a primer white color and never painted yellow. This gave “Scheherazade” a very unique and distinct look from the rest of the squadron.

E-flite 46 motors. 4S 5000mAh. Very conservative and cool setup. 22lbs of thrust on 12X6 3B!! I do not want any motor or esc problems. Counter rotating inward props for favorable P-Factor. Inners Ch 3 outers Ch 9 mixed on point curve together on throttle for inners always coming up before outers varying between 25% to 30%. Will be at Joe Nall with it.
