Joe Nall........? What days? I will be there the 12th and the 13th with my B-17 and B-25. I'd love to see your plane and maybe fly together! I'm going in my RV and camping there.

Tightened up covering, sanded aircraft with 800, decals, shot the colors with model master enamels yellow, blue, green, aluminum, 120,000 rivets +/- a 100 with weldbond glue, weathering....

I did the same. Be very careful of the sun! 5 minutes and she will be a wrinkled up prune. If I could do it over again I would pull off the covering, glass over it and then paint. I might pick up a tent/canopy to park under. It does go back down but reheating it to get it restuck is a problem. The paint melts first.

Hope to see you there!

Lazun, I got your phone message but didn't have your number handy to call you back. Let me know and we can go to the field and be as my guest.

I guess you'll be driving down to Joe Nall?

She looks great!

I still have to get mine back to flight status. I'm dragging my but on that. I need to rebuild my nacelles.

I bought a 10' X20' tent to park under at Joe Nall. Its way hot down here already by 1030 in the morning and mine hates the heat. You can park there too if you like.

Has she maidened yet? Most events require a minimum number of flights prior to arrival.

See you there!

So we all know they don't make these ARF's anymore, i just got the last one coming in with free shipment and all. Dang good price too.

As for airbrushing goes, who would or could i go to paint my B-17 ? i would love to do it but as a perfectionist one would have to grab my arm and pull me out of the garage or i would keep fixing and painting

Glad to see this thread still going strong...Finally getting to building mine...with 2 toddlers it isn't easy to build/fly anything.

I thought I'd start off with posting some pix of the sound system set up which may help others considering this. EdgarP seems to have a good thing going with his already.

I also went with the Model Solutions of Canada (MSC) set up. I do have the Benedini Sound System in my ESM Stuka but I have found the MSC system to be much easier which also has a built in Amp on the board vs. a separate one with Benedini. The decibel levels are comparable for both systems.

To attach a speaker mount to the belly, I used some pieces of ply, set up each with 2 blind nuts for the bolts and CA'd them on the inside of the belly.

Video of Joe Nall is long. But for B-17 go to 19:23 to see flight.

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread guys. I've skipped through a bunch of it but what I've read so far has been awesome. I ordered a set of plans for a 78" B17 it comes with the templates and instructions. I wish my field wasnt to small for the 120" ones like you guys have but for my first B17 I'll be ok. I will be cutting my own parts out and everything so the plan is to work on it over the winter and hopefully get the frame ready to go by spring. I seen in some of the prior replies some people said something along the lines of quadsync and was wanting to know if that is something to do with the engines. This will be my first multi engine plane and I'd hate to mess it up by just slapping 4 engines on it if they need something else. My plan is to go with 4 .30 four stroke engines and I have a 6ch futaba fast system. I don't know yet whether or not if I will be putting retracts on it, I guess that depends on just how into it I get as I'm building it lol any help or suggestions is appriciated...

I guess ( ...i am not so sure) that quadsync doesnt exist anymore but you can put two twinsyncs (one for the outer and the other for the inner engines) instead. i have two gas twin-engine planes (esm tigercat and esm bf-110) and i use twinsync on then, i really recommend it to you!

I have been flying my ASM B17 since June, with no problems, but on my last landing (nice and soft), the tail gear mounting former broke.  It is made from about 1/8 inch light ply.  I'm wondering if any one else has had this problem.  I will repair it by sistering a real plywood former over the thin original one, but it sure is a long way in the rear of the fuselage to do that.

As far as quad-sync, or any other sync, I don't think that is necessary.  Just get the engines tuned up for reliability, and don't worry about having them exactly matched.  You won't notice the difference anyway.

Here is a photo of the broken former next to a picture of the former. You can see how little material actually holds it.
