HI all
I came across an older 7.5 OB tunnel hull at a garage sale and just finished going through it and I think its ready for a test run.
At first I thought it was prather lap cat but after looking at pictures I dont think so anymore.
It has a tuned pipe and a racing carb on it and its set up on an old airtronics CS2P 27 mghertz radio.I would estimate it from the early 90's
If I was to post a couple photos maybe one of you guys could identify it?

Craig
I have $25.00 that joe sent out, for you.
The gas rigger is coming for more testing. The Speedmaster rudder IS lower and on the left by 1 '' A new prop will be tested. All riggers will be tested ,gas & nitro. I have not started the NIB .21 NR that I got from Bill last season. The .18 Go has been started and ran in Miss Jada a HOR hull.

Sounds good!

I'm thinking noon might be a good time to start. Give it time to warm up as much as possible. It's going to be a little windy, NNE at 19 mph. Not too bad, but not good either. Dress warm for sure and hope the sun peaks out....

I put the first coat of finishing epoxy on the .12 Zippkit rigger!

Propcircles, can you make Sunday?

Not sure, but you are right, it's not a Prather Lap Cat.

Edit: Looks like a LeeCraft... Nice Find!

Nice looking hull, like that carb as well. This all experimental as I made my own skeg. WIND I better bring more than riggers.

I take it that no one ran at Stony Pond yesterday (???). Vin and I helped Dale with his Circus Circus hull on Saturday. We went to a local park to use a pavillion just to have somewhere to get out of the rain. We got the OPS 80 fired up, but Dale needs to do some additional stuff to the boat before he throws it in the water. We were at the park from about 2-4pm. We were very, very cold by time we finished!!! RC

We ran but we has issues. Like the cold and wind. You needed gloves to drive. And we has a fire /wind brake to help with the cold. Craig's hull ran very well, until he flipped and damaged his cowl. My gas rigger flipped. The only good thing was my .18 Go inside my rigger. that little hull jumped all over like a newly caught fish. We all slept good last night. fresh air and 2" of clay on your shoes. Stony pond crew are tough and hardened. Craig can you make me a starter? like you have. That thing was a bear. I have lipo's and can make a box.

I'll show you how to wire the starter and get you the starter solonoid part number for McMaster. It is a 24volt, 100 amp starter solonoid. You wire it just like you would wire a relay. The Speedmaster handle switch energizes the solonoid coil and the solonoid switches the starter motor. I'll work up a diagram and take pictures. I'm using two 3s 4000 mah 25c LiPo's in series. If you have the $$$ you can go more on the C and mah....

The Lazer ran fantastic with the trim tabs! On my second run, maybe lap 10, I came around bouy 4 and I swear the boat wasn't stearing correctly. I got nervous about hitting the shore so I dumped the throttle and the boat flipped. I think it may have flipped from the sudden dumping of the throttle and the fact it was airborn at the same time. Not sure, but for now I'm saying it was driver error. The boat handled perfectly otherwise. Would go where ever I steered it, even in the rough windy weather. I did not have time to test other props. Hell, too cold to change a prop..

I broke my cowl again. This time in half. I think I know why. I have an idea to make the cowl come off easier in a flip. I'll need to order a new coil....

Sorry Craig Bob's Vector was 15.5 seconds
Craig has the new gas Vee hull record @16.4 seconds per lap
My gas rigger, I took off that carb cover and added Joe's pipe and the 1st pull we got her running. I have the NEW skeg to install Will be ready to test soon. My 3" extended pipe came in, for the gas Danger Zone. I needed to get rid of the S-bends that was stock pipe header. Now I can get shorter pipe wise. More RPM

I figured Bob's Vector was faster. It looked it. I may need to send the K30S to get modified... Either way, it was fast enough to be fun, especially driving in the rough. I'm sure if the water was glass, I would have been bored, but that's what the nitro riggers are for! Once I get the 12 rigger running, back to the Zippkit .45 rigger. Watch out, that boat will set some Stony Pond records!! Need to get back to work on the timing console too, that was delayed when a latching relay went bad on me.... When stuff like that happens, it's best to put the project aside for a while...

Neil, here is the solonoid that I used. It's the standard water resistant 24volt, 100 amp relay for around $22.80.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#electric-solenoids/=h8hhqc

Just wire it so that the solonoid turns the Dynatron on. The Speedmaster switch energizes the solonoid. I wired the solonoid so that the ground is switched. That way no high amp hot leads exit the wood box.

I'll try to post pictures tonight.

we did have better conditions. And we haven't heard a thing from Rogers Vee. I was hitting 19 seconds so I'm way off the pace. I haven't given up on the DZ yet. That new pipe will help. BEWARE OF THE VECTOR.

I see said the blind man
good presentation, A+
One more coat on the .45 sponson and we can rock & roll. most of the linkage is done. I still have no mount built .I'm not sure if the .21 mount will be strong enough or hold up

The .45 rigger should be easier to tune than the gas rigger, less torque, but more RPM's....

No Tunnel Thursday for me. It's my wife's birthday.

A guy on the IW has a battery powered saw for a starter. He replaced the blade with a pulley wheel. LOL

What ever it takes....

I have a yellow Lazer cowl coming. Red was out of stock. Should look o.k., I guess, with the red deck.... We will see.

Probably. Are the higher mah batteries physically larger? If so, I would just make enough room for larger packs. The 50c rating is nice and high, not sure if that is part of the equation for run time?? I always assumed you could take the mah rating literally for run time, but with the new battery technologies, I don't know anymore....

My old NiCd setup uses three 1800mah 7.2 volt packs in series and that will start .21 engines all day long. If you have a hard starting .67, not so much....

Having an extra set of Lipo's will be nice too, but I don't have the $$ for that yet... My setup should be fine for a full race weekend as long as my engines all start o.k.

Neil, that rudder offset should be much shorter. It looks like you have a 4 or 5 inch offset. You need 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 inches.
The TE of the rudder should be about flush with the back of the strut or shorter.
These boats don't like the rudder behind the prop at all.

Let me know if you need one. You should be able to make ours work for you.

Joe

Hey Jim,

That LeeCraft looks like a local (Elmira) boat.
We used to race against Team Over in the 80's. We were Team WFO...

Maybe Pete had that one?

What town was the garage sale?

Joe

I stole most of this off an e-airplane site:
The "C" rating tells you how much current it is safe to draw from your battery. It's expressed in terms of the capacity C.

So a 1200mAh 10C battery is good for 12A (10 x 1200mA/1000) and the same size 12C battery would be good for 14.4A (12 x 1200mA/1000). An example: One battery is 900mAh and 10C so it is good for a 9A draw. A second battery is a bit smaller at 850mAh but higher rated at 12C so it's good for a 10.2A draw. You can plug in the numbers for whatever pack you are using to see how many amps you can potentially draw.

The C rating doesn't mean your motor will go faster or run for longer. It just means that if you ever want to use more current, by using the battery with a different motor or a bigger prop, the 12C battery will allow more than the 10C version.

Furthermore most RC’ers treat the ‘C’ rating as a ‘burst’ or max amp draw situation…but to know how close you are actually getting to the ‘burst’ level, you need some form of a ‘Watt Meter’ to really understand what is happening in your set-up. My rule of thumb is: The higher the ‘C’ rating the less chance there is of exceeding the battery’s capacity to give up current and not hurt your battery.
Anyway...my 2 cents (again!!) Roger
