Good news! When are you two leaving for the Fall Nats? Are you gonna make Elmira?

I bet you found fuzz inside the old one. I had one like that and blew threw ,FUZZ booger.

taking a beating on them you should have some like we have at our site
in Ottawa.
remeber I hit alot of them at our race and not one scratch on my boat LOL.

7.5" foam float traps from a florida fishing supplier. No real damage, just boom tubes to replace. They are designed to do that.



Our system works well. Very little damage and the bouys do not need replacing all the time. If you are racing with other boats, a little scratch from a bouy is not the real concern.... other boats are..... With that being said, the Elmira bouy system needs to be refined a little. I don't much like the fiberglass rods....

The key to making the 7.5" floats work well is a heavy ballast on a 4 - 6 foot rope through the sub-surface bouy. The heavy ballast pulls the bouys into the water and most boats will drive over it, instead of pushing it. We use 8" long by 1" galvanized pipe.

What are you looking for? It's modeled after the specs in the impba rule book. Sub-surface bouys are 12" long pool noodles with a rope through the center and tied into a loop, so nothing hard to hit if the pond drops level during a drought. The ballast (1" pipe) slides through the rope loop.

Luc uses the cheap small beach balls and they work very well in protecting boats.

Bill, Great video, thanks for sharing! The 35+ is suppose to be a hot engine for riggers.

I fixed my stuffing tube on my .21 rigger last night. The back half of the tube finally broke loose from the bad crash at the D1 race. I first noticed it was split when I saw grease coming out from the crack in the tubing wall.

I hope the hull stays on the water in Elmira. It cart wheeled twice in a row at Stony Pond during the last test and it normally does not do that. I need to build a spare tub for next season as this one is getting tired and I think it's warped a little.

Did your boat cartwheel on the straight or in a turn? Those flips really structurally stress the hull. Warped tubs will wreak havoc when trying to dial in. When I do riggers, I add carbon veil to the engine and fuel tank compartments to stiffen. I come up approx 3/8" on the sides. Help prevent any separation at the radio box.

It cart wheeled in the turn. Good idea on adding carbon veil to stiffen the tub. I need to do that next time. How is carbon veil different than fiberglass cloth? Could I just use fiberglass cloth or would that add too much weight?

Flip in the turn generally means the turn fin lost contact. Flexing or hitting something will do it. Make sure the T/F is very sharp. Drag on the fin will also cause it ride up.

O.K., I'll sharpen the fin more. I'm sure it's dinged a little from the various beach hits. Just been too lazy to take a good look.
