I've taken some nasty hits with my .21 rigger. they are well built ''adding boom tubes mostly all they need after a beaching. And a prop. I;m a better driver now days

Status: offline 		Rick I would not go over board with that T-boat if you plan on running her at an IMPBA event.

this is from the rule book for the T-boat class.

HULL SPECIFICATIONS
1. Boats may be wood or fiberglass/composite type construction.
2. Length shall be a maximum of 56 inches, minimum of 47 inches. Width shall be a minimum
of 22 inches.
3. All boats shall have a front or rear cockpit with driver figures from the 1950’s - 1970’s era, no
cartoon or animal characters.
4. All boats shall have a period correct paint scheme and sponsor name & logo. The Sponsor
and/or logo may be original or of your own choice.
5. Normal hull configuration shall be conventional round nose, shovel nose, dropped sponson
or pickle fork design. The pickle fork shall not exceed 10% of the hull length and be
modeled after a classic era boat (1950-1970).
6. No rear sponson, ride shoe or other riding surface allowed aft of the sponson transom.
Engine belly pans are allowed. Engine belly pans may not extend beyond the engine compartment.
7. Nothing may extend more than 5 1/4 inches beyond the transom.
8. The strut mounting is optional. Maximum strut length of 3 ½ inches in length and ½ inch in width.
9. A minimum 50% of the gasoline engine must be covered with either a cowling or period correct
fake engine. This does not include header and/or tuned pipe.

Joe,
Riggers are really not the choice for learning to drive. A mono or cat would be a better choice to learn on as they are more predictable.

Nice build. However, in it's current state, it is not a legal Thunderboat.

This is the Thunderboat Registry on Jim's Boat Dock Thunderboat Registry. Pretty good examples of why they call them Classic Thunderboats.

Status: offline 		Illegal? Only if you're looking at the lack of a driver in the cockpit from what I was reading in the rules. There isn't anything that says the driver can't be under a canopy

Status: offline 		That's why I prefer not to run Thunderboats ,TOO MANY REGULATIONS ,that and the size of the hull. I'm still stuck home parts are on order. then off to the dealer for a new to me SUV I do like the size of the rear trunk on a SUV. A truck is my second option. I had a truck when I worked ,I don't like to work nowadays. I like a nice ride
Bill I agree on a newbie driver, the rigger is extremely fast to learn on. Rick came with experience flying planes, right off the bat he did OK If one grew up with a receiver/buggy/truck/plane/helly ,one can pic up kinda fast. The driving in a crowd is the hardest part. And staying clear of a dead boat in the water.
We all started as a newbie. So guys don't fret. just practice. Look at Charley he's a little rusty but will come back to him this next season.

I honestly don't think anyone would protest that boat, but if they did, a simple cowling swap would shut them up.

I really like to see someone take something and run with it like Rick is doing with his Bullitt Thunderboat.
Not only is it inspiring, it also oozes with American spirit and ingenuity.

Only a thin layer is needed to make it a pain to get out there. I was out there this morning for an hour, mostly removing the old timing pole and rocks. Let me know who is up to it. Thanks.

your right with what he's doing Joe it does looks great but like you said if
someone does protest then the cowl swap would be the only thing he would have to do to be legal.

That is Kentley Porter - one of the go fast rigger guys. Always has wicked boats. Note that was a SAW run, not oval racing.

Good eye! I just noticed that. No boom tubes.

The 114 mph .45 rigger is running a NR 46 engine! Go Novarossi!

Status: offline 		it will have a pilot.... and a x-force mod. engine and i have no plans to enter races with this boat... this is my baby, my fun boat... thanks thobesides its a bullitt, only thing not stock is the center section on hull(and i can easily make a stock cowl with zippkit parts...) and engine, which a stock zen. will mount on same mounts,soooooo.....

Status: offline 		PICK PICK PICK...... i didnt really want a classic thunderboat to enter impba races and i knew the rules... thats why i put a non race legal x-force engine in it... i have a JAE RIGGER TO RACE.... i like to build and be creative and i like the shovel nose style and the modern look too... you have been following the posts from the start and must have known it is my fun boat.... next is a JAE .45.. that will be for the races... riggers go fast, thunderboats is class and style for me... like a vette... would never race a vette... and a afternoon swaping engine w/ a zenoah and slipping the stock cowl on will be raceable!!! best of both worlds... thanks for updating me with all the regs and stuff tho
