I'm trying to make a female mold from a positive plug.
The plug has been primed and wet sanded to a glossy finish. Next I am applying releasing wax.

Then what do I do? Spray clear coat on top of the wax, then put on a layer of laminating epoxy and fiberglass cloth until a strong mold is made?

I guess a better question is to ask the best way to insure I don't have air bubbles/pin holes in my mold.

What are the secrets?

Thanks,
Eli

You need to apply the wax up to 5 times, with buffing in between, to get a really good release on it.
After the wax you need to paint on PVA release agent.
Once this has dried you need to mix thixotropic powder to laminating resin+hardener to form a stiff mixture, able to hold up a spatula on its own, and apply this to your plug. This will form your Gelcoat.
When the Gelcoat is almost cured you then need to apply laminating resin+hardener to it and stipple on cloth.
You then need to start building up layers to the required thickness using the above process.

Once all this has gone off - a good 24 hours - seperate the two. If this proves to be difficult you can squirt water between the two surfaces which will dissolve the PVA and make life easier.

Good luck

Jason

Why the "thixotropic powder"? How thick a coat?

Thixo is used to thicken up the laminating resin so it doesn't run/sag. It makes it easier to create an even smooth layer.
Difference between thick honey and thin honey! Thick honey will stick to your toast even when updsie down but runny honey will just run off.

Sorry, but the obvious answer is spray water on her and leave her in a warm dark room.......
