Please guys, do everyone a favor and read the FAQ. Misinformation is running rampant around here.

The $20 is an optional 1 year subscription. The site is very much free unless you intend to Sell stuff.

it is all in the faq. from what I understand the premium mebership will get rid of the ads and it is mainly for those sellers and auctioneers so they dont have to pay the posting fees. the normal rcu forums are still free it just a way to help support marc and not have to pay a posting fee every time you sell something.

RCU is free. It only costs money to sell your stuff

RCU will have themes to change colors. Just not at launch.

We will address and fine tune the new forums fonts and or spacing issues if they exist. It will appear exactly as this one does in terms of general sizing and layout.

The upgrade bug where it would not take your credit card will be fixed. We have located those issues. They didn't exist on our beta site for some reason which we are tracking down.

All karma will be preserved on the new site.

To those who think that the new RCU is vastly different simply bookmark the forum page and be done with it. You won't notice any difference by in large. The forum fields and setup are practically identical and can be tweaked. The forums are also not fixed width...they float just like RCU does right now...the rest of the site is fixed for compatibility with those who are on 800x600 just like all the NHL, NFL, MSN and so on enterprise level sites.

Misinformation isn't the issue for all of us who DID read the FAQ. Selling and buying stuff is a large portion of what I use the internet for. I believe several other people do too.

I also thought I read where is cost to remove full page pop-ups.
This is after Marc told me to wait and see how much better RCU was going to be than the Ezone. I'm sorry, I just don't see how paying to sell stuff and full page pop-ups is an improvement over the Ezone which has neither one of those irritations, but does have the lions share of knowledgable electric power participants and a simple format.

End of rant. RCU is, after all, a Free site and I certainly like what it is now. With a little adjustment I'm sure I'll continue to like the new one.

I was on registered as "Guest" when I had logged in. Wouldn't let me post replies.

When I was on, some pages would not load and others took a very, very long time.

Mike,

Our fees to sell will be miniscule for classifieds. 50 cents to $1.75 max and we feel the tools which are far superior (which you couldn't see because the site was bugging out) justify the small fee. $20 gets you a year of posting classifieds and auctions without the 50 cent to $1.75 fee. For the price of a small battery pack for your electric or a gallon of fuel a year of RCU is at your fingertips. Aside from electrics (which we are working on!) we have the largest gathering of devout RC enthusiasts and the best tools will be available to both you and them for trading. Not to knock ezone but if you look at what they give you for free (at least right now...who knows, that could change, right?) and compare it to what you get here for free after the change I think you will see it as a reasonable value proposition. With the only out of pocket necessity being if you are a seller but we have auctions too (ezone doesn't have those) and ours are 1/2 (50%...HALF) of ebay's fees. Also no insertion fees on auctions for your 20 bucks for those who enjoy selling in an auction environment.

Most RC'ers spend in excess of $1000 per year on the hobby. 5 bucks on a glowplug. 15 bucks on a gallon of fuel. How long do those 2 items last? 30 bucks on a magazine for a year. What if RCU hooks you up with a buyer for your plane, car, motor, radio or whatever and that fetches you 20 bucks more on one trade? Did RCU just pay for itself for you? How soon will your fee savings over ebay make the use of RCU's auctions pay for itself many times over? These are all questions few have considered in what appears to be a knee jerk reaction by a small percentage of our community here.

I didn't get to see the new site. It's a bummer that you have to pay or get ads. Everyone says the same thing, you pay for this and that, what's another $20. Well, it's another $20. When everyone uses that same argument, it gets old and really adds up. I guess it's true, this is a rich mans hobby. I'm sorry to see this site go, but pop-ups or full page ads or whatever just won't work for me.

I totally agree - the money soon adds up, and then I run out of it. I think that the cable TV companies should start giving me free cable TV, the telephone companies should give me free telephone use, my internet provider should quit billing me, etc., etc. I think it's an absolute disgrace that those companies charge me for the services that they provide - I should be provided with those services free of charge (and without any ads on the cable TV either !!).
