I dunno, I really didn't like it. I was kinda depressed about the way it was turning out to be more like RC Airport than RCU. Had the same bugs as everyone else, sure they'll get worked out.

Loose the galleries w/out paying, can't list classifieds without figuring in listing fee.

Seems like well be saying goodbyes to the Good Buys.

Auctions??? I can visit Ebay for those.

I'm sure we will get used to the format, but try to keep it personal and not so Commercial.

I think that the cable TV companies should start giving me free cable TV, the telephone companies should give me free telephone use, my internet provider should quit billing me, etc., etc. I think it's an absolute disgrace that those companies charge me for the services that they provide - I should be provided with those services free of charge (and without any ads on the cable TV either !!).

Services? This is a message board. If you sell, sure, you should have a fee. If you hit the back button and a full page ad comes up, someone should get a boot up the arse. Pop-ups and ads will kill this site. It kills most sites that resort to this. Being a moderator, you obviously think Marc can do no wrong. What you will probably end up with is a little "click" of people using the site and most others will get tired of the B.S. ads and pop-ups and move on to RCGroups or something similar. I will honestly give it a try when it launches, but pop-ups will quickly grow old.

Gordon,
If you have read all of the replies, you would see that alot of the people here also said that they prefer the original backgrounds.
I am not trying to be a s*** here by saying its all crap, I'm just trying to help out. As you know, Marc prides himself in listening to us, the members. I am just trying to help make this great site better.

Marc, I believe you started out on the wrong foot buy making it sound like we would be paying to not receive the ads. In the future I would bill it as having a PREMIUM membership available that includes a list of Benefits. Informing people that they can avoid the ads for a fee sounds less attractive. No matter what you may call it, if advertisement loads in a window be it full page or whatever without my wanting it, it is considered a POP-UP to most people . It would not stop me from at least participating in the free service. As the ol saying goes, its not what you said that matters, its how its received or understood, the first impression is always the make it or break it time for many people, and the attitude that you seem to have lately isn't helping, the take it or leave it dosen't go over very well when addressing your life blood, the participants, just something to keep in mind.

I can't beleive the amount of whiners and crybabies in this thread. If your all going to leave RCU then why are you still here complaining and not at another RC Forum already?

The moderators running to Marc's defense sound almost as bad as the complainers and are probably alienating more people than if they didn't say anything at all.

Marc, how many times do you have to justify your decision to move forward with RCU? Hasn't it all been said about fifty times already? Just let the new version sink or swim because all this back and forth with the members is just fanning the flames.

I don't believe its winning and crying at all, as many people supported the old RCO with their time and money only to be cheated. Many think the recent raise in dues to the AMA was also a rip off. When you become a Mod should you not support your leader as most have the chance for reward one way or the other. Marc may not have done things the way I would have done them, but he has allways tried to provide what the members wanted. With over 40,000 strong registered I would say he is doing a heck of a good job for us. As to the fees for the service one wants, that is up to the individual as there are many free RC sites available that are very nice also.

First of all I'm closing this thread because again it is riddled with posters spewing misinformation.

People say it looks like RC Airport. Well...go look at RC Airports forums and to those who saw the forums on new RCU please tell me how the new forums look anything like RC Airports in any way shape or form. The FACT is they look 99% identical to RCU right now. The difference to you, the end user, is that you have one click to get to them. Not only does that one click get you to them but it gets you to a custom view of just the forums you have chosen to see! Give me a break those who are saying it looks like RC Airport's forums.

Second piece of misinformation is all these guys whining about popup ads...the new site does not have popup ads, period. End of story.

There are not ads riddled over the entire homepage either contrary to the misinformation being bandied about above. There are two (2) ads on the homepage among all the other content. I wanted more but Michael (my partner from RC Airport) did not. He didn't even want two for that matter but I explained it was necessary to at least have two revenue generating spots on our homepage.

Think our site is horrible with 2 ads? Think our homepage is a disaster? Give me a break? You guys will run to ezone? Have you SEEN their homepage???? Before you bust our chops about our homepage go check out their ads and design and then come back and compare the screenshot to the new RCU. Here is ezone: http://www.ezonemag.com

here is our homepage: http://www.rcuniverse.com/homepage.jpg

The vocal minority love to come on the boards and complain and whine but the support for the new RCU is overwhelming despite a few who fear evolution and change.

The core of RCU is the forums. The new forums are as stated before identical. They look NOTHING like RC Airports and are everything like RCU is now. Those who state otherwise have not seen the site or must have confused us with another site somewhere else. The marketplace has BOTH classifieds and auctions. Some think we did away with classifieds. WE DID NOT do away with them. We created a hybrid system for the classifieds which is integrated into the same effective search and browse that we use in our auctions. Millions of people (many computer illiterate) use ebay every day and find stuff so I'm sure those who are technical enough to build an rc plane, car, heli or boat can use the same navigation on our new site just as well. This isn't rocket science guys. Flying a plane/heli or putting together an RC car is far more difficult a task.

Thread is closing because if I leave it open 100 more guys will say that we have popups, we are going to be slow with our 9 servers vs. the 2 we have now, that our forums or site looks like RC Airport which it doesn't....shall I go on?

Wait for the new site to launch or until you can really get into use it with its speed and functionality at 100% then make your comments. Until then most who are whining are making no sense since their statements have no basis in fact as I've just pointed out above.

This thread is still closed however to disprove all those in here that claimed that RCU was going to be completely different....take a look at this screenshot of our new forums and besides the colors and a few extra buttons and stats I have to add to the top still it is virtually identical inside and out.
