The 2011 Blue Max WW1 RC scale model contest and fly-in is scheduled for the three days of 15, 16, and 17 April, 2011 at the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City Florida (midway between Orlando/Disney and Tampa). If you missed us this spring the weather prevented any flying, but Kermit Weeks gave us a personally guided tour of his storage areas off limits to regular museum guests. The collection of yet to be restored aircraft and engines was, for lack of a better word, AWESOME! If a winter vacation in Florida is on your mind, be sure to include this event in your plans.

I would love to attend, but it is just too far away. Good luck with the event though. Hopefully the weather this time around cooperates.

Evening John- I will be looking forward to the 2011 event. The FofF Morane model will, with luck, be there. (See it here - http://a04-b04.mypicturetown.com:80/P2PwebCmdController/share.jsp?cid=enUSSEMTRC&x=AR%263VdK1S%3DBsc8lw2-8LawbW99w%3DrfBG.zrdbLk1RgM%3DdLmNB_DmgriCD1.3Qxhy1ikSU8EBxeIFqUhFTjqOaK-%2AyYynSfb85TKfizkqp-gjm52

It has had a couple of pilot errors on landing and is right now in the WWI airplane hospital - ground loop on landing yesterday, destroyed the rudder and has some internal bleeding as well. Should be air worthy again in a week or so. Next event is Rhinebeck in September. Do you have plans to attend?

Heard a few comments that some were not all too excited with the overall format of the inaugural event. Are there any plans to adjust?

Bob

Glad to have you re-up Todd.

Bob, I hope the hospital discharges your Morane soon. We are developing a number of changes in the format for the 2011 edition in response to the comments and criticism from the last event. The dates are moved to 15-17 April so hopefully the winds will be calmed down. ALL entrants will be eligible to compete in the flying segment. Fantasy of Flight is hosting a Living History Symposium on the same weekend so we think the public will be present in much greater numbers, so we're looking at ways to be more interactive with the museum guests. The event will be a three day event next year and all flying will be concentrated in one area so there will be no requirement to schlep models all over the grounds. A Blue Max will be awarded in each category and other awards and prizes are in the planning stage. Other modifications are still under consideration. I don't suppose our revisions will please everybody but we're making our best effort to respond to our "base". And lest I forget, we have a promise from the weather gods for fair winds and sunny skies. We'll update here and the other forums as we firm things up more.................John

I really want to attend this event, Man I hate that none of these events are held out here in sunny California. Out here everyone like jets....... or aerobatics ....... whats up with that....?? I hope to attend someday but to drive out there to fly takes me two weeks total off work and shipping planes can really get to be a pain in the neck plus intrusting your plane to someone else is really not fair to your friends either... Man living on the west cost is a big pain in the next .

We sadly announce that our able director and good friend Ron Prestin will be unable to officiate the flight contest at next April's event, and sincerely hope he returns for future editions. Congratulations (or perhaps condolences) go out to Barry Vogel who has accepted a commission to take over the operations of the Air Tactics Command. He has been promoted to Oberst by Gen. Celeskey, effective immediately. He may need your support as he puts his staff together. Join us in welcoming him aboard, and thanks to Ron for helping us get off to such a good start...............John
