finally got started on my FOFF hillclimber, working off pics of a 1:1 called "the clown" driven by Gunnar Gunnarsson...we have disused gravel pits here out the ying yang with some awesome hills so wanted a dedicated rc for the job.
using 4130 chromemoly tube chassis, rampig drivetrain, switched the long rear centre bone to the front so motor will sit back 1 1/8" more and used a longer fr/rear bone at the rear to increase the wheel base also figured a way to brace up the fr/rear axles to make them solid to keep this closer to the real deal. got hpi paddles and ordered some losi 420 paddles to try

hoping it'll end up looking something close to this (and yep it will be pink and purple )

here's some nice frame pics to work from found here on rcu http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9015383/anchors_9015383/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#9015383

progress so far

once i tack this I can mount the motor and centre diff to build around

You can have a look at German forum http://www.rcindependent.com/ ... for having a look
to the pictures it may be necassary to create an account ... but this is the thread from clamsi,

Ooo this should be good!

I love it when people like yourself who have been around RC's for years build their own.

great idea in there for making paddle tires, may have to try that

few more bits done yesterday, engine plate done and mounted, everything tacked up and started on the cab part, hope to get that done today and start on the back. want to start on my axles but aircraft spruce balls'ed up my order and didn't send the plate i need

I added 4 more mount tabs on the inside square to beef it up more

got the hardest bends done for the roll bars..rest is a cakewalk from here on apart from the axles

using 2 rear long dogbones so wheelbase is near 2" longer than my rampig and nutech, may have to put in a driveshaft hoop at the back for clearance at full droop

looking good mate, some nice bends there, i used to do the roll bars in one hit but trying to get them the same and fit in a certain width, its easier to do in two half, plenty of beer helps to keep things straight

Cool thread, looking forward to seeing more. I've always wanted to see an RC formula off road, especially a giant scale one.

Luckily I managed to get the rear roll bar bends right first time but wasn't too bad as they're in one plane, didn't even attempt the front as i knew it would end up uneven(from previous cages I've done) trying to bend in 2 planes.

progress has been slow working on the rear axle...spent last 2 evenings drinking beer staring at it figuring how to get it all lined up..the front will be a pain trying to get lined up with castor. Will probably change out the rear hubs for some vertigo 5b ones eventually. should have rear axle done this evening so will start on the rear cage section next

how it'll end up hopefully

rear axle tacked together and most of the rear frame's done..will need a driveshaft hoop and couple more braces.
I'll tackle the front axle next

i think i am going to run in to a lot of problems lining things up i quit drinking...

i am defiantly digging that idea for the upper "camber" mount though if it had of been me i would have cut it back from the hubs a bit and added some drag links/trv's to add some adjust ability to the camber..... just an idea but a nice looking build either way

the weakest point i see is in the lower differential mount arms i think upon any stress those welds or the tube will snap just me being optamistic i guess (my day always entrusted me build it stronger and make it last longer....) some cross bracing between the lower "arms" should help increase the strength (by no means am i saying your welds are crap just points of stress

I was going to use rod ends for adjustable camber but decided against it, i figured i'd keep it solid like the full scale ones and as it's for going straight up it doesn't need dialling in like track runners......the front will be the same non adjustable...about 3deg castor and no camber...toe in will be adjustable though.

the lower arms are just tacked on at the moment and there is a bit more bracing to come once I attach the 4 link and shock mounts...i'm using 4130 chromemoly tube with .049 wall so strength definitely won't to be a problem once it's finished up

Figured out how to go about the front end now so just waiting the 6mm male rod ends i ordered a while back..once the front axle is done I'll get busy with the 4 link

I've been neglecting this...now my tracks all done and the hurrax is sorted I figured I best start on it again so I dug it out a couple of days ago, I'll cut some steel for the front axle tonight and try and get that and the front end of the chassis done in the next couple of days. I've retired my rampage for now so have everything I need now to finish it...i better get busy
