Jason,

Thanks. I thought so. I grew up in Peru and I used to know his dad. In 1984 we traveled to Chile for a Pan American competion. In those days I used to fly control line aerobatics and Cesar's dad was part of the RC aerobatics team (as a manager I believe). That is the connection. I just thought it was nice to see a Peruvian participating at the NATS.

As an aside, I also saw Quique fly that year and of course he took first place. He was 15 or so back then!

This might be slightly off topic but it looks like the total entries for Pattern is 97. This year the total entries for IMAC (according to the scoresheets posted on nats news) looks like it was 44. There are almost as many Masters fliers (37) as there were for all classes combined in IMAC. Interesting.

Interesting but not surprising. IMAC has for many years been known as a game for very large planes. That doesn't work so well in a bad economy... especially if you like to use electric power.

Actually there were 109 entries. Not everyone showed up or chose to fly.

Unfortunately Brett missed a judging assignment and our Nats rules state that if you miss your judging assignment then your highest score is dropped (zeroed).

And pattern equipment is affordable to the masses in this economy?...come on.

Close to 100 entries is awesome to read! Hopefully there will be a resurgance at the lower levels...so the contests are not as top heavy.

cheers and good luck to everyone.

Wow, way to go Joseph Szczur- 2nd place in Advanced and has won two rounds. He's like 10 years old! Riley must feel like an old man- but if he can win Advanced this year that's two nats championships in a row for him. Way to go young guys!

Are there any other young flyers doing well this year?

I'm afraid to get my pattern plane out of the shop!

Don't be afraid . . . but you gotta find the planes under the dust first

IMAC is the solution for introductory competition. Pattern/F3A focus on building fundamental piloting skill (position, wings level, heading control, geometry). People stick with it and basically move up.

IMAC airplanes require a whole different logistical setup. You can't put 2 x 40% airplanes in a mini-van. It takes a trailer and a vehicle capable of pulling it.

Actually I have seen 2 competition IMAC planes and 3 people in a minivan
Even so the numbers did seem unusually low in IMAC at the Nats.

Uncle Jas x2,

It looks from one pic that breezes were favorable.

Any more scores? How has Judging been so far?

Gee you blokes put the judges very close to the pilot!

Is that distance legal?

Looks like all are having fun.

Cheers,
Jason.

I'm not sure about all the classes... in F3A there are about 5 or 6 glow and the rest are electric (out of 29).

Really enjoying reading all of the posts about the NATS, could someone post a few score cards showing the individule manoeuvres score from the judges?
JAS, if you don't mind I would like to see a few of yours too, it helps one compare where your flying is when compared to whats happening on the other side of the world, judging too:-)
