Here's a couple of tuning articles for you, one written by me and one from Pe Reivers.

For break-in, use the same prop you want to fly the plane with normally, there is no need for a lighter loading propeller for break -in. Fly the plane in a manner that creates load on the engine to build up some heat followed by an unloaded sequence that allows the engine to cool down. By that I don't mean you need to fly like your plane is on a Yo-Yo string going up and down constantly but regular aerobatic sequence flying similar to IMAC basic and intermediate sequences do a very good job of heat cycling the engine in the air. Most important though is that you make sure you have adequate cooling air flow into and out of the cowl so the engine can cool down when you do throttle back. Some light 3D is fine but refrain from doing any high RPM, low air flow maneuvers like, hovering for extended periods,  flat and knife edge spins, they generate lots of heat very quickly.

Here's a link to Pe Reivers' website, his forum pages are a goldmine of useful information. http://www.prme.nl/

Hi Jody,

At some time, you had compiled a list of the DLE 20 engines specifications, dimensions and parameters that was quite complete. I have a friend, and, myself who would like to peruse that list, but I have searched and not found it. Would you please post that list again, or at least show a location, address, or post number so that I can reclaim that information?

Thanks again, Steve

wvrcracer - Just back from a flying session in deep snow. I brought a shovel out to the field with me - good thing, too, cause the snow was 18" deep over the entire field. Had to stop three times to catch my breath just trudging out to my flying spot (about 1,000 feet from the parking lot). I dug a clearing about 15'x15' as my "base camp". Worked great! The snow here is still a bit compactable, though (just got 18" two nights ago), so you have to be careful to do smooth landings and takeoffs. Anything "bouncy" will put the plane RIGHT into the snow. I had one "flip" today, which bent a ski. Now have to figure out how to reinforce skis without adding too much weight. But smooth landings are SO cool.

Such a list of all that info is embedded in Post #1.
Jody contributed a bunch to that, but I complied all that data from the many users in this thread.

Look in Post #1 under; [Basic Info] and under [Dimensions] , plus other sections of it.

There's possibly more & better info in that, than what's in the manual(s).

It is indeed a lot of fun to fly off the snow. Planes jump into the air!

There's a thread I started here on RCU about such;

As to your ski's, think about these, might be what ya need;

a1pcfixer - Those Maiden's are the skis I'm using! (and bending). They are good skis, but even they aren't (evidently) designed to take the stress of an entire plane nosing into 18" powder. I'll reinforce and let Maiden know, in case they might want to upgrade their product. And that's for the link to the Winter Snow Fliers thread - I'll contribute!

Hello a1pcfixer and Jody,

Thank you both for getting the address to us. I've read so much about the DLE 20 for so long, I couldn't recollect where I had seen everything at. Or, it could be because of maturity, and mental development. In any case, thanks again for the information. It is great.

Steve

Jody & Steve,

You're welcome!

Steve - also look at the top of this page (pg 111) as Jody listed more tuning info & 2 links (files) as well.

My DLE 20 in the Ultra Stick 60 did not require any extra weight. 2000mah 5 cell reciever battery behind the servos,10oz tank in front of the servos, 2000 mah 4cell beside the fuel tank, ign in the old fuel tank compartment.

No trim change required from my previous setup with OS 91.

Flies like a rocket. I now have three hours on it. Love it!

32:1, I use Stihl HP Ultra, there are many other suitable oils that can be used.

Xu Liang changed the ignition for the DLE 20...It has a goofy curve compared to the older ones...There was NO probem with the advance curve on the original ignitions, why it was changed is a mystery...A small gasser will run just fine with spark set at 28 BTDC and NO curve in the ignition....The new curve changes abruptly, not linear like the original...You don't NEED any curve at all....Most ignitions will be at
full advance at 4000 rpm anyway..
Bill Carpenter has confirmed this with the new ignition....Anyone thiinks they know more about ignitions than he does is kidding himself...
The goofy curve makes the rpm change just when you don't want it to...
The only thing a curve does is change the position of the throttle stick at a certain rpm anyway...
Your turn Bcchi

Go away,
Got to fly today.about 40F,no snow,no wind,low humid and blue sky and Sun.Nice day in Jan in Wyoming.Had a friend with a new DL 20 at the field today .Started right up ran good but had fuel leaking out around a engine mounting bolt. He pulled the engine and fuel coming out into mounting bolt hole. Pulled the rear cover and a few pin holes in machined area of the case one of the larger ones went clear through and into the engine mounting hole. Poor QC.I was not he seller,or I would have gave him a new engine. He will call the seller onMon.
Time for JB weld.Flew my 20 a bunch cannot believe power of this litter gasser. Has a Bowman ring ,RCEXL iradium spark plug and my new little light weight ign with Syncro spark TC. Will idle at 1500. 17x8 APC.8100.
They say 12 to 20 below F on tues mourn.
Go away BCCHI
