Without batteries, the DLE 20 is just a nice little paperweight.

It looks like a thread with good data you NEED to run your DLE20...if you even have one.  Bet you do not.

Thanks for explaining the reason why!

I`m using one 4.8v x 2000 mAh NiMH for ignition and 6v x 2000 mAh NiMH for Rx and digital servos, this is in a 1/7th scale P-51 Mustang, 20cc.

I'm about to sell two glow planes and buy another 1.20 sized plane and DLE 20. I love this little motor!

Ditto, I have been waiting a long time for a gasser like the dle 20cc. It is so user friendly, it's shocking at first.

Sandy, Would you just run a Y off the pack to get the pump powered?

I ditto what is said above. I too use 2 batts in a 50 and 30cc but for the 20 1 is more than Enuf. I use 2 switches and a diode for the ignition. On a normal flying day I manage 4 flights and the recharge is 800 mah I.e. 200 per 8-10 min flight. Hence even the 2300 I use is an overkill. I am now planning to use a smoke setup on that 1 batt !!!

Yes I would do something like that. My batt has a deans connector. So I have made a lead that has dean one side and futaba connectors on the other side. One connector goes to the Rx. The other has a diode inline and goes to the ignition. I will now add one more for the smoke.

Those of you that are running A123 batteries and using a diode to run the ignition... are you running with just 1 diode or 2. Have saw info that indicated both cases. I am setting up a Seagull Extra 260 with a DLE 20 and am planning on using just 1 2300 A123 to power both RX and Ign. The battery has 2 leads and will be using 2 switches , rcxel ignition cutoff etc.

Thanks

Bruce

I use a single 2100mah A123 pack for everything, if I have to recharge after a couple flights, so what? I can charge the pack in 15 minutes...

Now if you were on F L Y I N G G I A N T S . C O M. they would be jumping all over you because you said 2100mah and A123 in the same sentence like they did with me. I called a 42% 2600 LiFe battery an A123 and you would have thought I called the pope Adolf Hitler!. There is too much cork sniffing going on on that site. I've never been able to bond with those guys over there!

It's simple. A123 are lithium Iron phosphate with the phosphate in nano form and come only in 1100 or 2300 mah capacities. All others are Lithium Iron Phosphate and may come in other capacities. A123 claim unto 60C discharge and 5C charge rates. I will be careful not to take this for granted for the non A123's. BUT for Rx, ignition use we never require more than 5C discharge and IMHO 1or 2C charge is good enuf for most of us. Hence regular LiFe ( non A123) are gud enuf for our use. I am personally using both A123 and the much cheaper Chinese LiFe - incidentally both 2300 mah - for more than 6 months now and find no difference.

Bruce I am using exactly the above - DLE20, seagull Extra 260, single LiFe 2300 mah, APC 17x6 @ 8800 RPM AND I use only 1 diode 1N4001 for the ignition. This drops the voltage by .9V to 5.7V - do not worry about the peak charge voltage of 7.2V as it lasts for A very short while. I use a double switch with charge jacks from sdshobby.net.
A typical flight of 8-10 min. Uses 200 mah.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on using the 1N4007 diode.. Think the voltage drop is the same.

I am planning on using a Jtec pitts muffler (if it ever comes... you know customs). Want to quiet it down a little.

Bruce

The only difference in diodes like the 1N4001 through 1N4007 is their reverse voltage rating. Since we are not subjecting these diodes to any reverse voltages, the 4001 is entirely adequate.

I run a World Models .60 sized PetieII P-51 with this Dle 20cc and love it. I use a 2200 ma 6v Nimh, Syssa Ibec and one switch to run 7 servo's, including retracts and ignition!
I am running a 16x10 Master airscrew classic at about 8400 rpm's. This set-up is just under 10 lbs. It scoots and is a blast to bore holes in the sky with.

I maidened a Showtime 90 with this same motor for a buddy today. That is a sweet combo! Half throttle or so hovers, tracks like it is on rails, definitely a keeper!
It is also a 1 battery set-up much like mine. Don't know it's weight, but was lighter than the P-51 by about a pound or so. He had a 16x6 on it, to small. Told him to get a 17x6, should hit the sweet spot.

Seems everyone is coming out with a Dle 20 cc conversion here, I think glow will be relegated to 40 size and below very soon!!

Got to fly my gp extra 300s kit .60 with the dle on it today and it flew really good I am very pleased and this is the begining of the end for glow engines for myself as well I think. The plane flew like it was on rails and the dle performed effortlessly, I need to tune her a little more, had a little miss but this is the second tank of fuel in it so, im not complaining. I figure I'll just break my engine in while im flying it
