Thanks, w8ye, for correcting me. Could what my wife says about my listening be also true about my reading?

Still can not get the throtte to work smoothly (as easy as the choke)....anyone help? It takes both hands to move the throttle from idle to full!!!!

Jerry

PS I pushed from the bottom and pulled from the top and it is getting a bit easier, but no where near what it was.

tailskid - try taking the throttle plate off. Maybe you pushed the axle a bit and the plate is binding inside the carb throat. And, as Twin Flyer said, I've also pushed the throttle arm down too far before tightening, causing binding between the arm seat and the carb. I doubt you bent the throttle axle.

Here are some pictures of the carb closed...it doesn't look like there is any evidence that the plate is binding but I may be in error.

Thanks for the advice microdon2!

tailskid - did you try removing the throttle plate to see if it made a difference? It's very easy to get off and back on, btw.

Took out the throttle plate and it made no difference Maybe I did bend the brass - but that is hard to believe.....do you think a 'normal' 2-cycle lawn mower dealer could fix it?

well I just checked on it. It better have a way better power to weight ratio since it costs what a DLE55 costs.....

Most 30cc planes Im looking at can be hovered with a 28cc engine with no problem. The extra cost will probably keep me away from the new 35R. If im spending that much, Ill spend a few more bucks on the plane and get an 88" 50cc plane and the DLE55.

It makes sense that the cost is a wash with the addition of a pitts muffler, but Ive never even considered buying a pitts muffler because they are ridiculously  priced. I did by one for 20 bucks used once...

And the way the muffler is mounted on the 35R makes it to where the engine cannot be moved back at all. The Goldwing MX2 needs to have the DLE30 moved back for the spinner to meet up with the cowl ring well. The firewall has to be opened up to slide the carb through. Also, I dont mind the look of either DLE 20 or 30 mufflers.

Just my personal opinion. But its always good when companies make more options. Id like to see a DLE 15, and a DLE 75 or 85

Jeremy

Lesson learned: Anything loose can get sucked into the engine.

See the whole story at DLE 20 won't stay running.

tailskid chances are you twisted the shaft and being flat in the middle for the throttle plate makes it essenctric and will cause binding. I sent you a PM. Hope this will help.

Hi Guys

I would like to ask one more question.
I have replaced the ignition unit to the rcexl one without the funny advance.
On checking the timing with the rcexl ignition tester I get around 36-38 degrees.
I don't think the original sensor will give me enough movement to change that by much.
Will I need to fit the new sensor that came with the ignition unit and set it at 28 degrees.

Thanks
Falcon

When checking the timing, you must turn the crankshaft in the direction that the engine normally runs for the spark plug will fire when the magnet comes out from under the sensor no matter which way you turn the crankshaft.

Thanks w8ye.
I'm OK on the method, just need to know if I need to re time it to 28 degrees with the standard (not the No4) ignition, and will I need to use the new sensor and adjustable bracket.

Thanks
Falcon

Hello Falcon32,

From top DEAD center, believe you should be ok if you get within a couple of degrees of 28. Worth a try before changing sensor mounts.

Thanks, I'll see if I can adjust the existing bracket to get me to 28 degrees.

The original ignition sensor on the DLE 20 is mounted centered on the casting seam on the bottom of the engine. This sensor will work fine with any RCEXL ignition "as is" if the sensor is good.

The instructions on the RCXL checker say that the prop hub should be turned to the point when the beeper goes off. The beeper off point is the proper timing point. This can be confirmed by simply installing a cm6 in the cap and it will fire at the same point.

I did not read the instructions and misled myself till Jody squared me away.

Hi Guys
Thanks for all the information you have posted, but I think I need to clarify a couple of points.
I'm sure that the sensor fitted to the engine is in good condition and will get the engine running.
Also I know how to use the RCXL tester unit correctly although the instructions are not that helpful.
The real issue is that if you read the Hobbico manual for the DLE 20 it states the timing to be 38-40 degrees BTDC.
Using the tester I'm getting about 38, which I believe is correct if using the original #4 ignition unit.
However I've swopped that one out for the unit more commonly used on the DLE 55 where the timing is 28 degrees BTDC.
My question therefore is should I leave the timing at 38 degrees or change to 28 degrees.

Thanks for your patience.

Falcon
