bcchi, are you saying that you've mounted a degree wheel AND propeller and have actually seen what the timing is doing when it is RUNNING?

Thanks so much, Ernie Misner

Yes I do that all the time.

Here a couple pictures of a rig I made for checking the timing curve on ignitions.

Works pretty good and can the curve from 200 rpm to 8,000 rpm.

Front half of a engine, out runner motor and speed controller with servo tester to run the speed controller.

Don't have to worry about getting whacked by the prop when testing.

Great looking rig, I always say knowledge is power. I was hoping someone would put up some pics of how they were making timing lights work.

I have sent alot of people to RCeXtremePower for ignition solutions, they have always been taken good care of.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the referrals and comments.

You get tired of working and decide to retire, Then you get bored and think of something to make to take up some time.

Then you think how can you make money with it. LOL

So far have built a CNC router but had no idea what I was going to use it for until I came up with the idea of the conversion ignition brackets for the DA/3W and ZDZ engines, With a cost of about $3,000.00 for router and software I will have to sell a lot of them to pay for it.

Then got bored again and built a electric chopper bicycle, Don't want to say what I have in it. LOL

Hey that's a good start from DLE. I wonder if they are still shipping them with the timing set at 35 degrees BTDC? I think at 35 degrees they just line the sensor up with the center-mold-line on the case casting. Is that where yours is?

Just retard it as far as it'll go in the slots and you'll be closer to 28 degrees.

I have used a older Sears timing lite that is 12 volt powered.  I use a very small strand of copper wire and place it on the sparkplug tip so the cap when shoved on plug, holds it there. This give a good place for the pick-up wire to work the timing lite.  Works great!  I have used it on flywheel mags too...some do have advance....which was a surprize too me.  I even held a camera and the flash from lite on the prop...."frooze" the motion of the prop and in the photo the prop arc was a blur.  Capt,n  P.S.  Always use a jumper ground wire too from steel braid to engine.

Any chance of DLE coming out with a DLE20 rear exhaust with the angled plug head?

Also does anyone make a prop shaft extension for the DLE20?

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Guys,

How is it going? Nashville Tennessee is a great place, night life is amazing, this city looks like it has some life going on, I'm overwhelmed, impressed and had great time of my life as my project is almost getting wrapped up. The question I wanna ask here is about DLE30. Though I totally understand this is not the thread for DLE30 but I still feel like asking the question here.

As I have mentioned I was gonna get Seagull's Sea Fury ARF, but I've changed my mind and I'm gonna get Seagull's Edge 540 180 with 77" wing span and planning to get DLE30 on it. It seems like a great combo, ain't it?

http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/edge-540-180-arf-SEA5550

I've setup my mind on it, I wanna go little more bigger on it. 30cc motor seems to be a great choice on it. Question is, hopefully once I've gotten that motor, do I still have to use regular oil during break in and after how many tanks am I supposed to switch it to synthetic blend. Secondly, does it's ignition give or is it gonna give me hard time set up like DLE20 did?

Thanks

Mody (In Nashville now)

DLE 30 care and feeding the same as the 20. Most will use the same gas can to feed both. It might be a little more forgiving when setting up the low speed, but by time you get to that you'll have enough time on your 20 where the differences regarding the 30 will be a non event. Should be of no concern....

A 77" airplane is better suited to a DLE 35 than the 30. The power difference is noticeable. I know, I have both.

rcguy,

you think 35cc is a better choice than 30cc? I think I'd go by your advice then.

Thanks

I think the 35 is a better choice for your airplane. I have 2 DLE 30's, and I'm very fond of each. The reason I recommend the 35 for you is because it has more power. Most 30cc planes are 70-72"  span. At 77" span, a bit more power is needed to get the full potential from the airframe. Both are great engines.

There has been the question of mufflers for the DLE 20cc engine in a narrow cowl like the 60 size mustang or in my case a bashed Tiger 60. It's a Pitt's style by J'TEC Radiowave now available at Tower Hobby, stock # LXBFYT $ 79.99, fit's engine very nicely.

Can not get upload images to come up, will try later.

Hello Guys,

Today I went to fly my Yak 54 with DLE20 on it. I tried my best to lower down the idle but I couldn't do it. Tweaked the radio, EPA, Sub-trim, it never ran right. My flying buddy and I tried to tweak the servo, it made a little difference. Now I have realized along with the fine tuning on LSN and HSN, it also needs the right push rod for throttle. The throttle rod is of nylon, covered with red nylon on top of it, one end which has the clevis which goes to the servo and other end which is metal Z band goes to the carb throttle arm which I think is a mistake if I'm right? does it have to have a plastic clevis or should I use Du-bro ball link threaded 1/16th. The push rod bends as well. I need some help here, what exactly do I need to use for throttle, what size push rod, which linkages size and all.

Please help!

Thanks

Mody

Mody getting your throttle linkage running smoothly with little or no slop is almost an art form. What you have will work fine if properly installed?

Straight lines from the carb to the servo work best. If you deviate far from that you're probably going to spend extra time getting it to work freely.

Evening Mody

You got a Z bend in that throttle arm? (looks like it and that's the way I read it) You need to get rid of that quick as it will wear out the hole in that phenelic (whatever you call it) throttle arm.

Any kind of ball and socket arrangement where the stud can be bolted solid to that throttle arm will work fine.

I'd take a pic of mine, but it's in the trailer. 30 degrees out and blowing like heck!

Hi ARMODY,

Many folks attach a longer arm to the carb throttle arm . . . to give more resolution to the servo arm movement.

Is it "dying" on you, . . . or still hanging with the high idle? Know at one time you considered changing to a RcExl ignition.
