Blond and sweet! Its nice that the gas engines are getting smaller, I know they will be cheaper to run less messy, But sure wish glow fuel would come down! I have so many glow engines, That it will take awhile to swap out. I have 52 1/2 airplanes the 1/2 is my Escapade, OOPS! But would be nice to not have to rush it but if glow fuel and plugs keeps climbing or even staying where the prices are at, what else can we do? looking forward to this 20 when it comes out!

My doctor said I would need allot more therapy, So I bought more planes!

I am really excited about the DLE 20 cc. I have had a Top Flite P-47 sitting on my shelf for quite a while waiting on an engine like this to come out. I have a brand new Saito sitting next to it but really wanted it to be a gasser. I love the Saito engines but gas is so darn clean and cheap. I also like flying longer than 8 minutes to. I hope my prayers have been answered. Thanks for the work JediJodi. I will be taking SEVERAL of these if they pan out.

Here's a low resolution version of the first DLE20 flying video, a world premier.  I know, if I flew for food I'd starve.

The plane weighs almost exactly 8 lbs. dry, the prop is an SY 17x8

Quite impressive Jody as it looks like it has more umph than my G20.

Must agree with above...if that's really an 8 lb airplane (and I've never known the Jedi to lie *heh*) then that's a peppy little engine right there.

Want!

I believe Jody stated previously that he was getting 13 lbs 10z of thrust with that prop, if I recall that information correctly, transporting an 8 lb plane. Did I interpret that right?

Knowing that 1) drag is the opposing force of thrust, 2) weight is the opposing force of lift, 3) every prop has a different thrust and efficiency at given engine rpm and 4) various wing types (symmetrical, semi-symmetrical, flat bottomed, etc) have different lift characteristics ... in general, what thrust is required to lift and moderately propel a 10 lb plane? Assume normal flight and light aerobatics, not 3D.

The airplane is an old Aviation Models Edge 540 profile, turned into SD Models then Thunder Tiger bought them out. The Edge is no longer available but they do offer a Yak 54 version. The problem with the plane is that after TT purchased SD Models they found out the plane is made of solid gold so they priced it accordingly, we used to retail the plane for less than the wholesale cost is now.

It does indeed weigh 7 pounds 15 ounces dry, that is the 17x8N SY prop from the specs I posted earlier and at 8200 RPM was providing 14 lbs. 9 oz. of thrust.

Again, https://www.thundertiger4u.com/store/comersus_viewitem.asp?idproduct=2801

Wow that little engine was throwing that plane all over the place. I LMAO when Jody was flipping the plane end over end.

I've a plane close to your question parameters of 10 lb so can offer a little bit of info. My Ultra Stick Light is 2 oz lighter than 10 lbs. Engine is a Zenoah G-20 W/stock muffler running an APC 16x6 at 8900-9000. It has unlimited vertical but is just into that zone. Six more oz and it wouldn't. If careful, one can do fair size vertical eights and have enough vertical speed to hold the figure well. If indeed the DLE is more powerful than the G-20 it will handle a 10 lb plane for most any aerobatics without problem.

Today i've received mine for test purposes.
Side by side with a DLE30 it seems a very small engine.
And is lighter than the OS 120AX !!!!! (both with stock muffler) but i'm thinking in the tank size for this DLE20 ..... and for the AX .....

Don't forget the ignition when you weigh them, the plane in the video has a 6 oz. tank in it and will fly for ten minutes with a healthy reserve if I'm not race tracking it.

The DLE20 is lighter than 120AX including ignition ...... 840g. all included the DLE vs. 860g. the 120 AX , both with muffler.

An IBEF would really put this thing over the top.  Then it'd even be lighter than the 120AX including the ignition battery AND kill switch.

Jody, First I would say you land as good as or better than 80% of the flyers I see at the average fly-in.  I have been to many.  Landing is something that is kinda like doing a special manever....you got to pratice, pratice...and pratice.  The ones that do pratice landings do better.

Now, on to the airplane in your video....that sure is a cool simple fun looking airplane.  I bet as these small gassers get into more hands...so will neat airplanes like that. Take Care & Thanks for taking the time to do & post the video!   Capt,n

I am also watching this and all other small gas engines.......not that I need to get rid of glow......hard to get rid of my OS .46 or OS .55......they work so well.....but my .75 and larger can go......

I will own one of every power plant I am sure, I see value in Electric, Glow , and Gas.

Hard to beat my PA Electric Extra with 2.5 to 1 power to weight........

I own a Yak with a DA 50.....and I am sure I will own a war bird and maybe an acrobat with a small gasser soon.

This looks like the top one I have seen so far.......

Oh well.... fly a warbird.... take a chance of getting shot down.....don't know which is worse....getting shot down or just plane running out of altitude as in aerobatics...
